Requirements:
Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Coordinate all elementary faith formation (including sacramental preparation), and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd sessions – Level I and Level II (only up through preparation for 1st Reconciliation at this time).
  • Preparation and implementation of curriculum for elementary faith formation and sacrament Preparation.
  • Recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of volunteer catechists, catechist aides and office/environment help.
  • Prepare for, schedule, and facilitate parent meetings, and sacrament preparation retreats.
  • Assist parents, in conjunction with the clergy and the OCIA/baptism/marriage prep team, to pursue a fuller participation in all that the Church has to offer; especially in regards to sacraments and Mass attendance.
  • Maintain parish data system for documentation of Sacrament preparation/celebration for elementary students.
  • Implement and oversee the Safe Environment programs for the students following all Diocesan requirements.
  • Assist catechists in establishing and implementing their plan for diocesan catechist certification, maintains catechist records and communicates to catechists, in-services/faith development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the pastor, staff, and ministries to establish a culture of evangelization, stewardship, and discipleship in the parish.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church.
  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine, Church structures, Catholic social teaching, and the multi-cultural dimensions of catechesis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; must initiate, be creative, and anticipate solutions to problems; needs good judgment. Ability to interact with individuals and groups of all ages and maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications required, and Parish Database Systems desired.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Need to possess or be working towards a bachelor’s degree or certification in a field related to Catholic Theology, Religious Studies, Catechesis or Pastoral Ministry, and have some past experience in catechetical ministries.
  • Possess or is in the process of acquiring the proper diocesan credentialing for catechetical leaders. Certified or in the process of being Certified in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd through Level II.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish highly desired.
  • Must have completed required diocesan Called to Protect Program for the Protection of Minors.
