OB One Church holds a Family Fun Day; Potluck for the congregation on May 29, Sunday, at 10 a.m. at the baseball field across the street.

The church announced that they would have a one-park service. Their service would include water baptism and child dedication. Also, they noted that the church would be grilling burgers and hotdogs, and members could bring a side dish or a dessert.

In the said announcement, they said that they would have a bounce house afterward. They also encourage members to invite their friends and family to enjoy the family day. Besides, members who want to stay after service for tacos would need to pay $5 per head from 12 years of age or older.

Baptism

The church also mentioned in another announcement that if members or attendees feel ready to publicly proclaim their new life and faith as believers of Jesus, baptism is for them.

They advised them to study the Six Common Questions About Baptism before registering.

Pastor Kris Langdon, the church’s co-lead pastor, mentioned on their YouTube video that baptism is an outward symbol and an inward commitment we make to Jesus. He illustrated his wedding ring to show that when someone sees it, they would know that he is already committed to someone, like at baptism.

That said, commitment is asking Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of those who want to be baptized, Langdon added. He said it is crucial to make baptism an inward commitment to ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior and forgive them for their sins.

He emphasized that baptism does not save people, but Jesus did. The faith people put in Him and the grace He gave those who believe in Him would keep them. He noted that a new life has begun once the person goes out from immersion in the water.

Child Dedication

According to the church’s website, baby or child dedication is a meaningful ceremony practiced by Christian parents soon after the birth of a child. They noted that the said ceremony is designed for parents to publicly state that they will nurture their children in the Christian faith. Also, it is a symbol to show that parents would seek to instill that faith in them.

The website also mentioned that the congregants would respond through a responsive reading or some other way to affirm that they, as a church family, would encourage the parents to raise their children with faith. The church emphasized that there is no implied salvation in the said event, depending on different churches.

The concept of child dedication to the Lord is found in the Scripture. Hannah was a barren wife who vowed to dedicate her child to God if He would give her a son. It can be found in 1 Samuel 1:11.

The church also mentioned that baby dedication is not one of the two ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. It is not an official instituted law of the church and should not have any conflict with salvation.
