First United Methodist Church will join the San Diego School of Christian Studies (SDSCS) lecture on "Broad Commonalities and Differences of the Abrahamic Faiths" on Saturday, Nov. 12.

The church’s website added the discussion will be joined by Interfaith Leaders. They added that they would talk about Islam, Jews, and Christian Faiths.

Besides, they said they would answer questions like who their neighbors were during the lecture. They said that they would analyze the resources of faith authority and the effects of those power.

Knowing Neighbors

The same website revealed that the purpose of the lecture is to empower commitment to a collective knowledge of unity. They emphasized that they accept their differences and remove the conflict.

As further explained, the curriculum offers the chance to renew and have a more profound knowledge that there is a connection with all individuals. They emphasized that they could have one purpose and love each other by expressing their differences.

Meeting Panel Speakers

One of the panel speakers of the lecture is Rev. Trudy Robinson. The website highlighted that she completed her course at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. She serves at First United Methodist in San Diego as the Lead Pastor.

In addition, they noted that she is an ordained elder in the Rocky Mountain (Legacy) Conference. Robinson stated that Methodist culture helps people understand God and the divine-human connection.

Moreover, the website revealed that Imam Taha Hassane, the Imam/Director of the Islamic Center of San Diego, would also be the panel speaker during the seminar. They mentioned that he had been the director since September 2004.

Hassane finished his Institute of Islamic Studies studies at the University of Algiers, Algeria. The website said he worked as a secondary school teacher and Imam in Algeria before moving to America.

The same website emphasized that he is a religious mentor of Muslim students and a part of the Interfaith Advisory Board of the San Diego District Attorney Office.

In addition, Rabbi Jason Nevarez, the Senior Rabbi of Congregation Beth Israel in San Diego, will be the third-panel speaker in the lecture. They explained that Nevarez has consistently become a part of the community.

The website said he offers pastoral counseling and serves beyond the synagogue's walls. Nevarez graduated from the University of Michigan. They added that he was appointed by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 2006.

In the SDSCS section, they mentioned that they have been inviting world-class speakers to discuss the spirituality of believers and unbelievers. They aim to make extraordinary educational experiences to challenge adults.

In addition, they want to help people have a more profound belief in their Christian faith as they expand their knowledge. They explained that the Planning Council is now leading the SDSCS, wherein members of First Church are part of the team.

Abrahamic Religions

According to the British Library website, Abrahamic faiths are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. But they revealed that there are more Abrahamic religions like the Baha’i Faith, Yezidi, Druze, Samaritan, and Rastafari.

As further explained, the word “Abrahamic” emphasized the value of the role of Abraham in various traditions. They said that Jews, Christians, and Muslims based their scripture on the history of Abraham and how it has been explained through the years.
