New City Church hosted a Sunday brunch to celebrate the new year on Sunday, Jan. 1, at Quail Canyon Rd. El Cajon and Carbajal’s Home.

The church’s announcement posted that they met for brunch instead of holding a regular Sunday gathering. They had a potluck-style brunch at two locations, as noted on the website.

Sunday Brunch

New City Church reminded members to join them in their New Year’s celebration, emphasizing that God’s church is more than a program or a place. They explained that the church is about God’s family united by the Good News to praise Him and love each other.

Besides, the church mentioned that the church is about reaching out to the lost and hurting in this world.

Moreover, the church informed members to pick the brunch location appropriate for them and bring their dish to share. They reminded everyone to have fun together with other church members.

First Sunday Gathering

On the same website, New City Church mentioned that they would have their first Sunday gathering on Jan. 08. They stressed that they would be meeting in the new building for worship and listening to God’s message.

In addition, the church noted that their children would have more room to learn and mature together in their current building.

City Kids

According to the website, City Kids has a new setup for the children to have more fun. The announcement posted that the teams for City Kids have unique plants to help families with further adjustments.

The church noted that they would have guides to help them in the first Sunday gathering. They said check-in would be from 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. The team highly advised members to come early.

In addition, the website explained that all families would use the glass sliding doors into the City Kids Lobby when they entered the church. Their staff would help them check their children into their assigned secured classrooms, as mentioned on the website.

As further posted, the checkout time would be from 11:45 a.m. to 12 noon. The church explained that the children’s classes would be finished and out at 11:45 from the City Kids Lobby.

Believing in God’s Goodness

Pastor Rick Warren wrote on the Crosswalk website on Dec. 29, 2022, that hope is believing in God’s Goodness. He emphasized that the more people understand God’s goodness, the more they will hope.

Warren explained on the website that hope is looking forward to God’s goodness. He added that the reason why people have genuine hope is that “God is good.” He noted that without God’s kindness, it is irrational for people to hope.

More importantly, he noted that all things God does for humans are because of His goodness. Besides, God does not base His kindness on how good people are, as the website explains.

Warren stressed that everything is always rooted in God’s character, not in how people behave.

In addition, he mentioned that if people are dealing with discouragement, doubt, or despair, they should fix their eyes on all the good things God has done for them.
