Job Summary: The Café Operations Coordinator is part of a community in which people traumatized by homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges can come to know themselves as loved and as instruments of love in the lives of others. The Café Operations Coordinator has a deep understanding of the Café’s vision and works to nurture and maintain our principles to show respect, give and forgive, live mindfully, practice compassion, and encourage growth.

The Café Operations Coordinator is responsible for assisting with supervision of Café operations and supporting Members, community volunteers, and staff during the hours when the Coordinator is on duty.

Days and hours of operation: The Café is currently in the process of ramping up to Mondays through Fridays, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.; the schedule of work will vary according to staffing needs. This person will work for approximately 40 hours a week on a regular basis. Shifts will generally be scheduled from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays.

Job Responsibilities:

· Oversee the overall elements and day-to-day operations of the Café.

· Supervise kitchen operations to include food and coffee preparation, daily set-up, dish-washing, and clean-up.

· Communicating and enforcing Café rights and responsibilities with loving accountability.

· Attend Café trainings & staff meetings.

· Assist with Recovery Café program development.

· Assist with training of other staff, community volunteers, and Members.

· Facilitate Recovery circles as needed.

· Assist Members in accessing community resources, including advocating for Member support as needed.

· Ensure safe handling of all aspects of Café food preparation, consumption, transportation of food and supplies, and storage.

· Ensure Café remains clean and beautiful, including: clean-up of meal service counters/tables, trash/recycling removal, vacuuming, bathroom stocking/maintenance, and sweeping of the front sidewalk/entrance.

· Assist with supervision of community volunteers and members.

· Perform data entry and other forms of administrative support.

Required for this position:

· Strong interpersonal communications skills.

· Ability to consistently serve as a motivator, conflict-resolver, and “de-escalator” for both staff and members.

· Ability to accurately represent Café services and programs to other agencies and Café

visitors both orally and in writing.

· Ability to work well on a diverse staff team with flexibility, creativity, and

enthusiasm.

· Proficiency in basic computer skills sufficient to communicate effectively with staff and

other agencies, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Suite, and email.

· Strong organizational skills.

· Understanding of the recovery journey

· Ability to embody principles of recovery in daily interactions.

· Strong desire to support people who are on their recovery journey.

· Capacity to be loving and to establish and maintain appropriate boundaries with Café patrons who at times may be challenging.

· Valid driver’s license (safe driving record required).

· California State Food Handlers Permit.

· Ability to lift 50 pounds.

· Non-slip shoes.

Minimum Education, Work and Skill Requirements:

· Education: High school degree (or equivalent); Experience in human services may be substituted.

· Work Experience: 2-3 years of progressively responsible work experience in a position utilizing skills relevant to this position.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

· Previous experience in a social service agency and with populations struggling with addiction and/or mental health concerns.

· Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.

· Addiction training or education in human services a plus (ex. chemical dependence).

· Supervisory experience.

· Drug/alcohol counseling experience.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The responsibilities of this position are to be conducted under supervision of the Director of Community Outreach. The Director of Homeless Services, will provide oversight and guidance and will conduct requisite reviews as to job performance. This position is subject to the terms and conditions of the most current Personnel Policies and Practices Manual.

Any person assuming this position will have read and agreed to be subject to the terms and conditions of the Personnel Policies and Practices Manual of the First Presbyterian Church of Hayward, including an understanding that any employment agreement will depend upon a satisfactory background check and a satisfactory explanation of irregularities. The background check may include but is not limited to clearances by a background search agency to review for criminal records, education verification, Social Security trace, license or credential verification, previous employment verification, previous credit, DMV, etc.

Note that FPCH stands for First Presbyterian Church of Hayward, and it includes the church plants and other activities that are all under the same tax ID number. SHP stands for South Hayward Parish.
