OVERVIEW:
The SOMA Corps Chinese Ministry Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to develop, maintain and direct the Chinese Ministries with the SOMA Corps. Lead and promote the Corps programs related to the bilingual population as needed and assigned by the Corps Officers.
DUTIES:
- Plans and develops monthly calendar of activities/programs.
- Report to and take direction from the Corps Officers for daily program assignments.
- Facilitate planning and implementing of Sunday Worship service and related ministries for the Chinese Language population in coordination with Corps Officers.
- Provide Chinese interpretation/translation.
- Support the outreach to the Silvercrest population according to federally allowed policies. Work closely with the Silvercrest Director and Corps Officers to achieve these goals.
- Provide support to Senior Activities Program.
- Plan and implement bible studies/small groups (Chinese language).
- Develop regular visitation and outreach for assigned ministries, including Chinese/Senior populations. Written visitation reports must be submitted to the Corps Officer and statistician.
- Direct and support Chinese/Senior Ministries special events as needed. Coordinate with the corps schedule to avoid conflicting dates and times.
- Attend community meetings and training sessions as directed by Corps Officers.
- Attend Corps Council and staff meetings, including staff training sessions.
- Assist with planning and implementing seasonal programs.
- Maintain sound Christian theology and practice (Refer to Salvation Army Doctrinal Statements)
- Other program duties as assigned by Corps Officers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bi-Lingual required (English/Cantonese or Mandarin)
- BA Degree or equivalent experience
- Must be Christian and show evidence of personal relationship with Jesus Christ
- Must be comfortable leading and providing interpretation for worship services
- Pastoral experience preferred
- Excellent Bible knowledge
- Experience with Chinese-speaking community and culture
- Familiarity with needs of senior citizens within the community preferred
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Energetic, personable, dependable, flexible
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Must maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of and adherence to Salvation Army programs and policies
- Must hold or obtain a class B driver’s license
- Must hold or obtain a First Aid or CPR certification

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and tist on a intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
