Full Job Description

St Stephen’s Church, Belvedere, CA is in search of a new Communications Associate to create and publish content for both internal and external audiences. The ideal candidate will be a strong, quick writer that can deliver relevant and timely content that engages our congregation and the wider community. The Communications Associate should thrive working as part of a small supportive team, while also being able to demonstrate a high-level of independence.

The Communications Associate reports to the Rector and collaborates closely with the Minister of Music, the Executive Assistant to the Rector, and the Associate Rector for Family Ministry. This is a 15-hour/week position. Work can be done remotely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quickly distill and synthesize often complex information into written materials, working against weekly deadlines.
  • Copyedit and proofread a mix of communications deliverables to ensure they are accurate, grammatically correct, on-brand and on-strategy.
  • Upload and appropriately categorize content (graphics for livestream, photos, videos, writing, documents) in content management (website) and digital asset management systems.
  • Contribute to the communications team by interviewing parishioners and telling their stories.

Education and Experience

  • College diploma; training in writing/journalism strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience writing on deadline on a variety of topics required.

Competencies

  • Strong, quick writer with excellent proofreading skills. Familiarity with MLA Style preferred.
  • Ability to craft compelling stories and engage multiple audiences effectively.
  • Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to juggle many projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude and a willingness to do what is necessary to get the job done.
  • Eagerness to take on new responsibilities.
  • Interest in the mission of an Episcopal parish committed to growth.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with parishioners and colleagues.
  • Proficiency with office productivity software (e.g., MS 365, Adobe Products, Slack, Keynote, PowerPoint).
  • Experience working content management and digital asset management systems a plus.

Compensation includes a competitive hourly wage.
