The Community Engagement Manager will plan and administer GLIDE’s community engagement, education, and action programs with GLIDE's volunteers, clients, donors, and the public. These programs are meant to pair community engagement and activism and cultivate strategic engagement and build meaningful connections between GLIDE and its constituencies. This position occasionally works nontraditional hours/weekends, and holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties can

be assigned, and the duties and responsibilities of the job are subject to change without notice.

Community Engagement Strategy

  • Working closely with leadership in Center for Social Justice and

congregational staff, to carry out and advance strategy around increased community engagement and activism, educational programing, disaster relief and other community-building activities.

  • Form interdepartmental and interagency teams to execute engagement strategies.
  • Meet regularly with Center for Social Justice and program staff to coordinate overlapping, mutually beneficial efforts.

Strategic Partnerships

  • Identify and cultivate potential partnerships and coordinate such efforts with relevant

departments and staff members.

  • Build key partnerships with outside influencers and organizations around community engagement and activism.
  • Ensure that all department program participants work in a safe and supportive environment.

Educational Programing

  • Partner with educational programing that connects individuals and groups to GLIDE’s mission and activities; build lasting relationships among scores of community members with the organization and its social justice work.
  • Support administrative and educational work of participating staff, consultants, and volunteers to promote effective pedagogy and engagement.
  • Maximize opportunities for volunteers and participants to learn about GLIDE's community and its social, personal and interpersonal elements.


Communications

  • Draft content for newsletters and email blasts.
  • When applicable, serve as a GLIDE representative at public events and with media outlets to provide information regarding the organization and its community engagement.
  • In collaboration with communications staff, prepare reports, marketing materials and other collateral for both internal and external stakeholders.


Data, Evaluation, Technology

  • Carry out and advance current data strategy, including data collection, migration and

integration among systems and databases.

  • Design, implement and train staff on all data systems as needed; ensure efficiency in

data gathering and dissemination.

  • Integrate new technology into workflows as needed.

  • The ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting deliverables or objectives within specific timelines.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years' experience in nonprofit management or a similar field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of current trends, resources and information related to community engagement and volunteerism.
  • 2-3 years of event planning experience.
  • Experience working in a community- based social service agency with homeless and impoverished populations desired.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Communicates effectively: Speaks, listens, and writes in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques. Has the ability to effectively communicate the organization's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Proficiency in grammar and spelling required. Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities, i.e., the skill to analyze situations and facilitate appropriate actions and responses.


COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Strong computer proficiency with MS Office; including intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Salesforce experience preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to hear within normal range and communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, and access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist- finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time. Stationed at computer keyboard 50% of working time. As this position requires long periods of sitting and repetitive use of a telephone, computer and other office equipment, this person must take short breaks and integrate stretching into her/his daily duties to avoid musculoskeletal disorders.

  • Fast paced, with frequent interruptions, demanding, social services office environment;
  • GLIDE maintains an "open door" policy to the community and its clients, who frequently enter and leave the building;
  • Noise level is moderate to noisy and lighting is conducive to completion of work;
  • The employee may be exposed to air borne pathogens;
  • GLIDE’s buildings are located in the Tenderloin. Due to our surroundings, it is important to always be aware of what’s going on around you while walking around the neighborhood.
