Area/Program Focus: Finance

 


Position Summary: The Controller’s role is to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reports, the efficiency of accounting department operations, and enhancing internal control. S/he will oversee the daily operations of the accounting function to ensure accurate and timely completion of team tasks and distribution of information to end users, through technical coaching, workflow redistribution, and review.

 


Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

 


Supervisory Responsibility: Accounting Manager, Senior Accountants and Staff Accountants

 


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead response to audits and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations.
  • Work with department and senior management to prepare annual budget, review contract budget and quarterly forecast
  • Create, maintain, and update accounting policies and procedures, and ensure accounting operation follows Council on Accreditation, with internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes in all Finance functions
  • Ensure that the Finance department reviews necessary statements, documents, and expenditures in compliance with Best Practices and GAAP.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum 5 years controller experience with 1-year nonprofit fund accounting.
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience that includes hiring, evaluating staff performance, interpreting and implementing personnel policies related to employee disciplinary procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA license preferred
  • Preferred experience with fund accounting systems such as Sage MIP, Intacct, or FP&A system Adaptive Insight.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing accounting internal control procedures.
  • Knowledge of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations and 990 tax returns.
  • Experience in system implementation including Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and work effectively with diversified internal and external stakeholders
  • Be flexible and open minded to different ideas
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform under tight deadlines and work independently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel skills
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and goals of Catholic Charities.
  • Experience in system implementation including Accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and work effectively with diversified internal and external stakeholders

 


Salary Range: $110,000-$150,000
