Each week, people experience our legendary Sunday Celebrations and participate in our thriving congregational life programming, ranging from prayer circle and bible study to LGBTQ++ Pride Team to our racial justice groups.

SUMMARY

GLIDE Memorial Church seeks a Director, Church Operations (DCO) to strengthen and advance the Church’s day to day operations and strategic development. This role reports to the Minister of Celebration, and supports the Church’s mission, vison, and values by leading the Church operations and strategical planning, finance, human resources, Celebration Services and congregational life support. This role is responsible for leading and managing church staff and congregational leadership across key functional areas, including church operations, strategic and project planning. The DCO will be expected to work on Sundays and selected holidays when the Church is in operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Minister of Celebration to achieve the strategic vision and planning that advance the Church mission and purpose.
Ensure operational readiness of the Church through leadership and oversight of Church administration, finance, human resources, and facilities management.
Lead processes and planning efforts to achieve overall Church operations objectives. Influence leadership on recommendations for current operations and future development. May develop multi-year business plans and oversee allocation of resources.
Design, implement and manage logistics and operational programming and support for Sunday and holiday Celebrations.
Interpret, implement, and ensure compliance with Church policies and procedures.
Recommend and/or formulate internal administrative policies, guidelines, and procedures. Direct process improvement for organization or program.
Oversight of Church finances, as well as developing, monitoring, and analyzing a complex consolidated annual budget.
Support the Minister of Celebration with the oversight of communications and fund development operations.
Serve as project manager in support of the church’s strategic planning process.
Act as administrative liaison between GLIDE Memorial Church and GLIDE Foundation.
Partner with Minister of Celebration, Church Stewardship Officer and GLIDE Memorial Church board treasurer to develop and implement fundraising initiatives to achieve financial sustainability objectives.
Support GLIDE Memorial Church board and committees on board meeting administration develop meeting agenda and facilitate meeting preparation.
Recommend and implement new systems, policies and processes to streamline operations and support the healthy, long-term growth of the church.
Participate and/or support regularly scheduled congregational life meetings and events.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly leads and supervises Executive Assistant to Minister of Celebration, Operations Manager, Church Strategic Storyteller. Dotted line relationship to Church Stewardship Officer.
Work closely with relevant team members on hiring and retaining staff, career coaching, ensuring required training is completed, personal development and performance management.
Responsible for ensuring a diverse and inclusive environment for staff, faculty, and trainees who represent diversity in race, ethnicity, gender identification, disability and abilities, sexual preference, and perspectives.
Coach and mentor direct reports regarding performance and problem resolution; consistently communicate responsibilities and expectations using tools such as regular feedback, work plans, performance evaluations, and professional development plans.
Support the Minister of Celebration, GLIDE Memorial Church Board of Directors, GLIDE Foundation Chief Impact and Strategy Officer and Human Resources to resolve personnel matters in accordance with GLIDE's policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience (including at least three years of management experience at the Executive Pastor/Director level), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills including conflict resolution.
Experience working in a church or community-based social service or social justice organization with socially and economically marginalized individuals required.
Sound judgment and strong leadership skills; experience developing staff professionally and building solid teams.
Excellent planning and organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong expertise in business and management computer applications and databases.
Strong financial expertise in budget planning and financial forecasting.
Ability to research, analyze, and communicate written and verbal reports of key ideas to senior leadership. Strong analytical skills. Ability to evaluate programs and interpret outcomes.
Ability to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies. A team player who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding work environment. Ability to effectively run meetings and lead workgroups to achieve defined goals.
Ability to prioritize tasks, balance multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and thrive in a complex environment with multiple and shifting priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to work effectively across cultures. Demonstrates a commitment to learning, communicating, and working respectfully with people different from themselves.

Ability to see details of objects at close range.

Ability to use standard office equipment, and access, input and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to use a keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
Requires physical ability to sit and keyboard for long periods of time (stationed at computer 75% of work time).
This person must take frequent short breaks, integrate stretching into her/his daily duties to avoid musculoskeletal disorders.
Activities that occur frequently are standing, walking, and handling. Activities that occur occasionally are climbing staircases. Activities that occur infrequently are: bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, reaching straight, above, and below shoulder level with both shoulders individually or at the same time, carrying and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Ability to move about. Will come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day. Ability to move quickly to address emergency or potentially dangerous situations.

GLIDE’s buildings are located in the Tenderloin. Due to our surroundings, it is important to always be aware of what’s going on around you while walking around the neighborhood. GLIDE maintains an "open door" policy to the community and its clients, who frequently enter and leave the building.
