Do you enjoy working with young people as they explore and grow in faith? Are you open to exploring a new way to do youth ministry? We look forward to having you join our team, working at two churches in the East Bay. The salary range for this part-time position is $25,000 - $30,000 depending on experience. Our new Director of Student Ministries will work 10 hours a week in Walnut Creek and 10 hours a week in Lafayette. The campuses are 6 miles apart.

The main focus of this position is to provide a comprehensive spiritual formation experience for middle-school and high school students.

An ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in ministry and/or teaching in another area (e.g. school teachers, coaches, active volunteers) within this age group. Experience with using technology is a must. Specific theological training is a bonus.

Director of Student Ministries at WCUMC and LUMC

Position Title: Director of Student Ministries

Classification: Part Time (Exempt)

Reports to: Pastors at WCUMC and LUMC

Job Description – 20 hours/week (10 hours/week each at WCUMC & LUMC)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Director of Student Ministries will lead a Christian ministry of spiritual formation for young people of our churches and develop experiences that foster personal growth and self-worth.

EXPECTATIONS LEADING TO SUCCESS:
Plan and implement programs for growth in Christian faith and community, consistent with the mission of WCUMC & LUMC, including Confirmation class.
Lead service opportunities (including our annual mission trip to Sierra Service Project),, a weekly youth program, provide fellowship opportunities
Accept children and youth and the gift that is diversity of race, culture, ability, sexuality, gender, and perspective, and provide a safe space for them both physically and spiritually
Collaborate with Pastor, church office administrators, and Music Directors to ensure intentional connection between ministries
Expand the community of youth served through active recruitment and relational activities with existing youth members
Maintain a meaningful and effective social media presence
Regularly share information about Student Ministries both in the weekly newsletter and in Sunday morning worship.
Actively participate in staff meetings when possible
Develop an annual budget and, when approved, ensure compliance
Consistently engage in your own spiritual and professional growth
Ensure that the Safe Sanctuary Policy of the church is followed

Qualifications for Director of Student Ministries at WCUMC and LUMC

Experience: Two to three years working, teaching, counseling, or coaching youth in this age range. Candidate may have direct experience in the development of youth as a camp counselor, church leader or school teacher. Whatever the experience, a candidate must provide examples of their successful interactions with youth.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university desired, but not required. Alternatively, course work after graduation from high school may be of benefit.
