Area/Program Focus: Grants

Position Summary: The Grants Writer will work closely with the Senior Grants Manager and will be responsible for managing the grant needs of a subset of Catholic Charities programs and conducting the full range of activities required to prepare and submit timely, accurate, and polished proposals (including budgets) to foundation, corporate and government sources. This includes tracking program department funding needs and strategy; prospect research; maintaining the calendar of grant applications; project management for grant applications; writing, preparing, and submitting grant applications; maintaining grant awards database tracking and filing; and ongoing funder communications in collaboration with program teams.

Reports to: Senior Grants Manager

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Responsibilities:
Tracking Needs & Strategy: Tracking of programmatic funding needs and grants fundraising strategy for Catholic Charities programs.
Prospect Research: Research prospective grant sources (government and private) compatible with Catholic Charities’ mission, values, and programs in support of the agency’s strategic and program goals, and calendaring those prospects into the Grant Writing Plan.
Project Management: Coordinate the development of grant requests by establishing timelines that outline tasks, assignments and deadlines; meet all deadlines; facilitate timely communications with program leadership; collect grant submission materials from Programs and Finance verbally and in writing.
Writing, Preparing & Submitting Grant Applications: Draft and edit grant proposals, checking for completeness against grant instructions, spelling, grammar, and style. Format agency and departmental budgets to meet grant sources’ budget requirements. Copy, collate, package, and submit final grant materials per grant instructions, and within funder deadlines.

Internal and External Communications:
Respond to inquiries from funders and programs strategically and in a timely manner based on guidance of the Senior Grants Manager.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with governmental and private grantors and agencies.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with Catholic Charities program directors and staff.
Provide stewardship to current funders based on guidance of the Senior Grants Manager.
Grant Awards summary & project management: Reviews, summarizes, and tracks data on grant awards received in database and file formats.
Maintain grants files, database entries, and project management tools: Ensures that all content is complete and up to date at all times.
Be thoroughly familiar with the policies and procedures guiding the work of this position in particular and the department overall. Perform job functions in line with these policies and procedures which include:
Meet or exceed fundraising goals.
Grant proposals, including narratives and budgets, adhere at all times to the highest standards of accuracy and quality.
Funding is in line with agency priorities and guidelines, and Programs are engaged in grants process.
Grants proposals are written from a strengths-based perspective that highlights client resilience and agency.
Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Superb, adaptive writing and editing skills with flawless attention to detail.
Well-developed verbal communication and people skills as well as project management skills.
Excellent organization skills; must be able to prioritize responsibilities and handle multiple tasks relating to concurrent projects.
At least 5 years of grant writing experience and prior project management experience.
One to three years of related experience / skills (outstanding applicants with other relevant experience / skills such as journalism, project management, and / or academic research will be considered).
College degree from a four-year institution, preferably in a liberal art, social science, or other writing-heavy subject.
Competence with database entry and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Teams) with an emphasis on budgeting in Excel.
Personify a “customer service first” attitude with both clients and coworkers; ability to work closely with partners to ensure a positive, constructive environment within the department and throughout the agency.
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required for special projects.

Salary Range: $60,000 - $63,500
