ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION: The Samoan Community Development Center
(SCDC) is a community-based organization in San Francisco that serves Samoans and Pacific
Islanders in the San Francisco Bay Area. SCDC was established in 1991 to improve the quality
of life for Samoans through self-help, economic self-sufficiency, education, self-solidarity, and
the preservation of Samoan customs and traditions.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Pasifika Urban Roots (PUR) mission is to cultivate opportunities
for Pacific Islander young people to embrace their identity and thrive in knowledge, health, and
advocacy. PUR is a Pacific Islander focused collaborative aiming to address the needs of the
Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (NHPI) community in San Francisco.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Health and Wellness Engagement Coordinator is a grounded,
energetic and experienced individual tasked with engaging and educating Pacific Islander youth,
TAY and families about issues related to Mental Health and Wellness using a culturally-informed
Pacific Islander lens.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
● Plan, develop, and coordinate community activities and events that promote wellness and
increase education about mental health in the Pacific Islander Community (such as support
groups, workshops on mental health, etc.);
● Maintain a log of curriculum related to all Health and Wellness Engagement workshops
and activities for continued use;
● Build relationships and partner with staff and Pacific Islander partners, leaders and
organizations/programs (eg. churches, schools, SCDC programs) for engagement and
education opportunities;
● Develop monthly social media content related to health, wellness, and mental health;
● Build and manage a list of mental health resources, providers and referrals for P.I.
community;
● Support Mental Health Specialists with engagement and attendance of youth in
therapeutic groups;
● Collect, Track, and Analyze Client/Attendee Data, and Information (i.e. be mindful of
privacy issues; research and develop a system for keeping track of data and follow ups);
● Reports for summary of work and as required or specified by PUR Program Manager (ie.
create summary documents of each activity and gather and track agendas, sign-in sheets,
notes, and evaluations; collect pertinent data such as # people in attendance and brief
narrative of the event; summarize evaluations gathered for each activity; prepare to
report back progress of planned activities);
● Participate in case conferences, staff meeting, in-service trainings and staff development
activities/trainings;
● Perform other duties as requested by the Clinical Supervisor and/or Program Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, social sciences, or other
health & human services related fields, highly preferred but not required;
● A minimum of 2+ years of experience working in a non-profit agency or community with
focus on the Pacific Islander population is highly preferred;
● Knowledge of and experience in convening, community organizing, and outreach;
● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively, function independently, highly
organized, and interact professionally with a diverse, multicultural, and interdisciplinary
staff of all levels;
● Excellent written and oral communication skills;
● Strong familiarity with Mac OS-based or PC-based computers and Windows, experience
with Google Docs, Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, & PowerPoint required
● Strong organization skills;
● Knowledge and understanding of PI population mental health and health issues helpful;
● Bicultural and bilingual Pacific Islanders are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY,
