PROGRAM & POSITION SUMMARY Catholic Charities CYO Athletics physical education program provides essential skills and knowledge that all students need to maintain a physically active and healthy lifestyle. Our goal is to develop a standard based physical education program which creates an individualized learning platform for physical, cognitive and social achievement.

Our integrative learning environment incorporates a variety of fun activities, including a nutrition program, that inspire dedication to successful lifelong learning and health. Athletics developed a curriculum to accommodate the school's need for affordable, quality physical education programming. The program meets the Catholic School, California State and National standards for physical education for grades K through 8. Within the PE Program, competition is kept at a minimum and the emphasis is on skill development, fitness, healthy living, and fun.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Plan and teach PE classes to all students + Maintain all PE and small playground equipment and storage. + Collaborate with Principal and Supervisor on thematic curriculum projects as needed + Mix of movement, fitness activities, cooperative games, group challenges and initiatives, outdoor activities and competitive games/team sport skill development. + Communicates productively with parents regarding children issues as needed + Mediates conflicts between children, focusing on "accountable- talk." + Attends Trainings, as directed. + Report any problems or incidents immediately to the Director of CYO Athletics. + Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

 

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education & Experience :

 

  • Bachelor's Degree, required + CBEST, preferred. + 2 years experience in sports and recreational background, preferably in a leadership role. + Teaching Credential preferred.

 

 

  • Minimum of 2 years documented relevant experience working with grade school children in a classroom setting.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

 

  • Must complete VIRTUS training prior to hire (we provide). + Knowledge of organized youth sports; coaching and classroom experience. + Ability to supervise elementary aged children. + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. + An understanding of Parish school community life.

 

 

  • Motivated self-starter who is outgoing and flexible.

 

 

  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.

  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

 

 

  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

 

 

  • Driving is not required for this position.

 

If driving a car is required for the position, incumbent must have a valid California driver's license and be able to provide proof of DMV record and personal insurance (if required.)

  • Managing incidents that may occur during a PE class. + Work outdoors for 75% of the time. Must be able to work in a variety of inclement weather conditions. + Noise level in work environment is usually loud and consistent with a gymnasium setting.
