OVERVIEW:

Responsible for supporting the creative process of curriculum design and implementation for year-round, seasonal Outdoor Education and adventure program experiences, and Summer Camp experiences.

  1. Develop/Implement curriculum for the Camp program.
  2. Supervise Redwood Sojourn Intern(s).
  3. Recruit and train seasonal and adjunct Program staff.
  4. Develop an outdoor education/adventure-based program to market to conference groups.
  5. Recruit and book Outdoor Ed/Adventure Program groups.
  6. Facilitate and staff program.
  7. Develop and distribute Outdoor Ed/Adventure Program marketing materials.
  8. Host guest groups
  9. To live "On-Site" for the convenience of The Salvation Army to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities of the Program Manager position.

DUTIES:

Program Development for Summer Camp

Collaborate with the Executive Director in Curriculum development, including but not be limited to the following:

  1. Planning, scheduling, and supervising camper and staff daily

schedule.

  1. Program Staff daily duty schedules.

a. Officer of the Day and Night watch

b. Program Staff break day duty schedules

c. Camper daily schedules

i. Cabin/Unit Activity Schedules

ii. Campfire/Campout Schedules

  1. Provide leadership and support to develop program content, trip planning, and equipment needs for the Outdoor Adventure Camp (O.A.C.).
  2. Spiritual development of campers, staff, and guests.
  3. Integrate Biblical and Christian principles into the program curriculum.
  4. Ensure that the message of Jesus Christ is presented to each camper. This should be an experience of guided discovery that inspires the imagination and engages all the senses.
  5. Physical Development of Campers and Guests
  6. Plan and implement outdoor education components for summer camp to include but are not limited to the following: Creek Study, Hiking and Backpacking, Trail Ecology, Shelter Building, Recycling, Orienteering, Outdoor Cooking and Sanitation, Plant and Animal Identification, Star Gazing, Tracking, and Nature Craft.
  7. Plan and implement experiential education opportunities for campers through Camp Redwood Glen’s Adventure Program resources.
  8. Identify, secure, and teach equipment needs and usage to seasonal summer staff.
  9. Emotional Development
  10. Integrate activities, exercises, and opportunities that build communication skills, decision-making, self-esteem, and confidence into the daily curriculum.
  11. Procurement of equipment and supplies needed in this service.
  12. Make necessary recommendations to the Executive Director to develop budget and equipment needs.
  13. Submit all requests to purchase equipment and supplies promptly to the Executive Director.
  14. Maintain Challenge Course and all elements in good repair.
  15. Schedule annual Challenge Course inspection.
  16. Plan, facilitate, and help lead Staff Orientation and In–service training events.
  17. Summer Staff training events
  18. Adventure Challenge facilitator training events.
  19. Assist with staff recruiting and pre-camp planning as needed. Must be able and willing to travel during the recruiting season.
  20. Facilitate and support volunteer workgroups with trail maintenance and other site/program-specific projects.
  21. Where indicated by the Executive Director, maintain all documentation and record-keeping necessary to ensure American Camping Association Accreditation remains current.
  22. Prepare the site for a visit.
  23. Accompany the ACA visitation team during visits as necessary.

Redwood Sojourn – Intern Program.

1. In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop/implement the Redwood Sojourn Intern program curriculum.

2. Interview and recruit Interns.

3. Support Interns through the program year.

a. Supervise Redwood Sojourn Interns in the development of the outdoor education component for summer camp to include but not limited to the following: Creek Study, Hiking and Backpacking, Trail Ecology, Shelter Building, Recycling, Orienteering, Outdoor Cooking and Sanitation, Plant and Animal Identification, Star Gazing, Tracking, Nature Craft, and Adventure Program resources.

4. Write up a year-end analysis and evaluation of the program and each Intern.

Outdoor Education & Adventure Programming

1. Market, recruit, and schedule all Outdoor Education & Adventure Program groups.

2. Collaborating with the Executive Director, research and develop a curriculum niche that will become Camp Redwood Glen distinctive.

3. Develop and implement curriculum design.

a. Develop a written curriculum using authoritative sources.

b. Secure equipment and supplies

4. Develop marketing materials and distribute them to prospective clients.

5. Coordinate scheduling with the master camp calendar.

6. Provide programs and curriculum support when requested.

7. Establish and develop programming and networking opportunities with other outdoor education centers.

8. Maintain Challenge Course and all elements in good repair.

9. Keep current and maintain all equipment logs and medical logs related to program activities and equipment.

10. Schedule annual Challenge Course inspection.

11. Work with Executive Director in establishing target goals for measurable program growth

Guest Experience

1. Assist with the recruitment, training, and retention of weekend support staff.

2. Weekend Host Duties:

a. See addendum for Host Protocol.

b. Oversee and support all kitchen and operations staff assigned to the rental group.

c. Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation is evident in the kitchen.

d. Give oversight to kitchen and camp clean up immediately after the last meal of the scheduled group.

3. Fulfill duties of On-Call Manager as scheduled.

a. Be available by radio and cell phone in support of the Guest Host.

b. After. Hours contact for Guests.

4. Support the Executive Director in any duties as requested to maintain a consistently high level of efficiency in the operation of the camp program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· BA degree in a related field, preferred.

· Three to five years experience in camp administration in a primary leadership role (Seasonal or Full-time).

· Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the implementation of ACA standards.

· Must be a Christian in profession, confession, and demonstration.

· Must possess and demonstrate an ability to work with people, including community groups, participants,

campers, and staff, in a pleasant, concerned, and caring manner.

· Strong oral and written communication skills.

· Self-motivated and can motivate others.

· Detail-oriented, accurate and precise.

· Capable of handling and controlling multiple projects.

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Energetic, personable and dependable.

· Must possess a valid driver's license.

· Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.

· Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, or similar

software applications.

· Knowledge of Salvation Army practices and organization desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

¨ Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis

¨ Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead

¨ Ability to operate the telephone

¨ Ability to use a desktop or laptop computer

¨ Ability to lift to 25 lbs.

¨ Ability to access and produce information from a computer

¨ Ability to understand written information
