Responsibilities

Develop, communicate and oversee programs to attract and encourage the participation of children, youth and families in the life of the church

Provide opportunities for children and families to grow spiritually, participate in mission activities and build relationships within the church

Teach Sunday School 2-3 times/month, co-lead youth group meetings and participate often in the life of the congregation

Work closely with the Pastor in planning lessons and programming to coincide with church priorities, themes and missions, to include giving Children’s Sermons and planning quarterly intergenerational church services

Review youth demographics and adjust Sunday School offerings accordingly; recruit and support adult leaders to participate in teaching the various Sunday School offerings; and review our selected curriculum as needed to ensure its continued relevance to our community

Plan, communicate and execute annual family programming traditions such as a Christmas Program,
Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween community outreach and a summer mission program

Responsibly allocate the budget for education, missions, outreach and youth activities and account for spending in a timely fashion

Participate in relevant communities of practice in youth and family ministry in the region and within the
UCC Mid-Missouri Conference to foster community, share ideas and identify collaborative opportunities

Attend a weekly virtual staff meeting and report to the Pastor and the Consistory on the status, challenges and future of the ministry

Maintain a connection with the Samuel Preschool co-located in our building

Review and update our Safe Church policies

Minimum Qualifications

A person of faith, who has a demonstrated ability to connect to children, youth and families

A strong leader with a willingness to take ownership of the role and operate independently in a flexible work environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience contributing to the growth of children – spiritually, physically and emotionally

Strong communication skills, to promote programming both within the church and beyond

An understanding of the values and faith tradition of the United Church of Christ

The position is 20 hours/week with a yearly salary of $20,800. There is a possibility to increase the hours if the applicant demonstrates success and identifies areas where additional work would benefit the church. Much of the work can be done remotely and the hours can be flexible, with the exception of Sunday mornings.
