Global Safety and Security Manager - Office of International Mission

Reporting Relationships
The Manager of Global Safety and Security reports to the Director, Missionary Services.

Essential Job Functions
To enable the Gospel to be proclaimed to the ends of the earth by means of training employees and volunteers to work safely and securely in any environment with an eye toward situational awareness, safety, and security. Manage day-to-day protective security operations and mitigate threats to personnel, ministry, and assets.

Mitigation
Assess and report on the risk to OIM operations.
Assist in developing mitigation strategies.
Assist field offices in developing a security posture in support of healthy missionary living.
Serve as a subject matter expert in international safety and security within OIM.
Assist in understanding and maintaining duty of care standards for international travelers and expat assignees for the LCMS.
Maintain documentation and communication requirements for sensitive international data.
Ensure background checks are conducted when appropriate and oversee child safety and protection.
Preparedness
Oversee OIM crisis and contingency plans.
Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with individuals and organizations with global safety and security expertise.
Providing training, interpretation, and resources around duty of care standards for international travelers and expat assignees for the LCMS.
Oversee contingency preparedness team to prepare for emerging risks.
Response
Serve as a leader of emergency or crisis management teams.
Ensure emergency and crisis management plans are being followed.
Recovery/Reflection
Ensure the crisis management team debriefs and reviews the crisis response.
Oversee that counseling and debriefing options are provided to those impacted by a safety and security situation.
Provide an after-action summary report to OIM leadership with recommendations and lessons learned.
General
Pursue professional certifications as requested by the organization. Continuously be a learner by keeping up on industry standards and investing time in professional expertise.
Travel as needed for visitation of fields for assessments, for professional development opportunities or for other reasons and purposes as needs arise.
At the discretion of the Director, Missionary Services, assist OIM in the carrying out other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Active, in good standing, member of a Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod congregation, faithful to the Holy Scriptures, and the Lutheran Confessions, and supportive of the Synod’s Constitution, Bylaws and policies.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
Experience in leading direct and indirect reports.
Experience in a crisis management or security training role, preferred.
International mission experience or other professional international experience, preferred.

Proven ability to remain calm and have a calming influence on others while assisting workers through a crisis situation.
Acutely observant paying attention to details and surroundings.

Able to deal with ambiguous situations and identify actions to take.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral forms.

Ability to use discretion, at all times, with confidential employee-related information and situations.
Proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook email and calendar functions.
Capacity to learn other technology tools essential to role.
