Archdiocese of St. Louis

Position Summary

This position will provide Human Resources support for the lay staff of the Archdiocese of St. Louis and will serve as a resource for all organizations, parishes and schools of the Archdiocese. The incumbent will support the employment process including recruitment, screening, interviewing, in-processing, and new hire orientation. They will also assist in job description preparation and administration, leave of absence administration, and other HR functions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and administer a job description program for all positions within the Archdiocese. Assist department heads in the preparation of job descriptions and maintain job description files.
Develop and operate a full-service employment process for the lay staff of the Archdiocese. Specifically, place recruitment ads, conduct hiring seminars, distribute and collect employment applications and resumes, screen candidates for qualifications, conduct screening interviews, answer questions from candidates and others regarding employment opportunities within the Archdiocese.
Conduct or administer new hire reference checks, background checks, drug screens, criminal or abuse checks with appropriate government agencies, and reference checks.
Conduct New Hire Orientation including in-processing of new hires regarding compensation, benefits program, and other administrative issues.
Assist employees regarding HR issues by answering questions, distribution of information packets, and by referring employees to proper offices for assistance.
Administer leave of absence program for lay staff of the Archdiocese.
Assist in the development and administration of an HRIS system.
Provide clerical and administrative support to the Managing Director – Human Resources.
Assist the Managing Director – Human Resources with compensation surveys and reviews.
Complies with Federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and stays current on those requirements.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

Must have a college degree, Bachelors or Associate.
Must have two years prior experience in Human Resources working with employment, compensation, or benefits.

Must be able to maintain complete confidentiality regarding personnel data.
Must have excellent oral and written communications skills.
Must be able to use a computer and be knowledgeable in word processing, spreadsheet operation, and the Internet.
Must be able to use the telephone and have excellent telephone skills and manners.
Must be able to work effectively with and provide excellent service to all levels of employees and external contacts.
Must be able to develop and maintain technical knowledge of Human Resources practices and regulatory compliance.

Relationships Requirements

Respond to employee inquiries re Personnel Policies, compensation, and benefits.
Reports to the Managing Director – Human Resources.
Interfaces with Benefits Section, Payroll, and other offices and agencies support HR.
Interfaces with the Director of Personnel for Catholic Charities and the Director of Personnel for Catholic Education.
