Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod - Office of National Mission

  • The Office of National Mission coordinates and supports domestic ministries that serve congregations and schools through the districts of the Synod (Bylaw 3.8.2.3).

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of School Ministry.

Essential Job Functions

  • Collaborate with Synodical entities to manage and distribute the creation of print and electronic resources for Lutheran schools.
  • Manage and update an electronic platform in order to enhance communication, information and resource sharing among the national office, districts and Lutheran schools.
  • Recruit and manage premium service providers in order to provide discounted products and services for Lutheran schools.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Rosters and Statistics and LCMS district offices in order to accomplish the gathering of vital statistical information that accurately reflects the state of Lutheran schools today.
  • Direct work with the Office of Information Technology, Council of Presidents and the Office of Rosters and Statistics to improve how professional information (LIEF) for commissioned workers is recorded and shared.
  • Manage projects from beginning to end. Understand, use and collect statistical information, and create digital records.
  • Collaborate with Synodical entities and personnel, as necessary, to complete assigned projects.
  • Present concepts and ideas to a variety of groups, regarding office management and technology integration in Lutheran schools.
  • Provide leadership related to record keeping and accounting for School Ministry.
  • Provide leadership and support for intentional and appropriate integration of technology for other ministry areas in the Office of National Mission.
  • Performs other duties and work as assigned; in addition complies with revisions made to the role, made from time-to-time, including other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools or Unit Executive of the Office of National Mission.


Education and Experience

  • Experienced Ordained or Commissioned rostered LCMS church worker preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding about Lutheran schools; or the desire to learn all the necessary knowledge.
  • Experienced educator with administrative and classroom experience preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years administrative support experience preferred.


Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Technical background and experience with online platforms and learning management systems.
  • Project management with digital resources and oversight of School Ministry Social Platforms.
  • An ability to learn and understand new technology and software.
  • Experience with Word Press (including database operations, word processing skills, spread sheet capability, publishing capability and the ability to coordinate electronic meetings).
  • The ability and desire to work well with others in the Organization; providing the excellent service to internal and external clients and constituents.
  • Ability to learn, understand, and comply with rules and protocols.
  • Ability to learn and understand the LCMS accounting system.
  • A strong desire and ability to learn new things and accommodate change
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite Products (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Pleasant and confident telephone skills.
  • Proficient writing and verbal skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
