Staff Writer / Editor - LCMS Communications

LCMS Communications is responsible for informing, reporting and interpreting, in consultation with applicable officers and boards, the Synod’s purpose, program and positions to its members and for promoting an increased understanding on the part of the church’s publics of the mission of the church, its positions and programs.

Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Director of Editorial

Essential Job Functions
Create content for print publications and online media.
Edit content for print and web/social media.
Report on events and meetings of the International Center staff and boards.

Requirements
Member in good standing of a congregation of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field.
Experience generating and editing content for the public.
May be required to travel occasionally, including overnight and possible international assignments.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Knowledge of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s mission.
Knowledge of and high-level skill in writing and editing print and online material
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with a firm grasp on proper grammar and spelling.
Advanced knowledge of (or willingness to learn) AP and LCMS styles and standards.
Ability to create and edit informal video and audio resources.
