Immanuel UMC is a multisite church in Northern Kentucky. The Accounting Manager position is part of our administration and operations team. This position brings specialized education and financial expertise to help Immanuel accomplish our mission. The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Executive Minister and Administrator and is secondarily responsible to the Senior Pastor.

The Accounting Manager develops and maintains records in accordance with accounting principles while utilizing Practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting per Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with oversight of general ledger accounts. The Accounting Manager will have a strong understanding of all accounting operations including financial reporting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Additionally, this position oversees the payroll function and ensures our employees are paid per church policies and within applicable legal statutes.

The Accounting Manager will effectively engage with and support staff in every church department and location. The Accounting Manager will clearly and concisely convey financial ideas to non-finance professionals in a manner that achieves the desired result.

In this role, a successful incumbent will understand the subtleties of accounting in a church context, have a servant's heart, and be committed to safeguarding our church's financial integrity.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Contribution Management:
Manage Contribution through Church Management Software
Enter annual pledges and maintain donor records
Enter contributions
Prepare and distribute quarterly giving statements and year-end statements
Maintain online giving platform to include setting up accounts, forms, etc.
Assist members with setting up online giving

Income Control:
Record daily, weekly, and monthly income in software (cash, checks, and online)
Maintain accounts receivable for fee-based ministries (pre-schools)
Prepare and distribute monthly statements for fee-based ministries (pre-schools)
Complete collections for late fee-based ministry payments (pre-schools)

Purchasing and Expense Control:
Enter accounts payable into the software
Verify the accuracy of accounts payable by contacting vendors when necessary
Prepare accounts payable checks weekly and attach them to invoice for signing
Move and process accounts payable online
Mail accounts payable checks and scan documents to be placed into digital filing system
Create and maintain vendor records including proof of insurance certificates
Collect, post, and reconcile credit card accounts in accounting software and prepare monthly closing journal entries
Assist with annual renewal of liability, worker’s compensation, and property/casualty insurance policies

Bank Accounts and Financial Statements:
Make bank deposits (in person and online)
Prepare bank reconciliations monthly for all bank accounts
Prepare monthly financial statements for monthly meetings
Assist in the budget process by providing financial information as requested
Enter budget into software
Print periodic reports for committees and as requested
Assist in annual reporting and audit

Payroll Process:
Prepare payroll for processing bi-weekly and bi-monthly
Record electronic GL’s in QuickBooks
Print and distribute reports

Interactions:
Maintain good relationships with accountants, bankers, brokers, and attorneys affiliated with Immanuel Church
Interact positively with members of the congregation, parents of our fee-based programs, and others as may be required from day to day
Attend weekly administrative and operations team meetings and monthly finance team meetings contributing to the success of each of these teams

Church Scheduling and Room Reservation:
Responsible for maintaining and coordinating the church calendar through scheduling of church events on multiple church sites including ministry events, fee-based ministries, and other event (Lakeside Park Camps and Boone Campus)
Print and post a daily calendar throughout Lakeside Campus
Refer to Use of Facilities Policy and Procedures regarding use of the facility
Print a four week calendar for staff meetings
Maintain conference room calendar for large planning

Human Resources (HR):
Maintain Paycor software
Coordinate onboarding of new hires (background checks, I-9 verification, W-4, and state required documents, etc.)

Other Duties:
Record Church Council notes and provides needed information for monthly meetings
Distribute daily mail
Order supplies for office operations, food pantry, preschools, and other ministries as needed
Volunteer recruitment for office operations
All other duties as assigned by Executive Minister and Administrator or Senior Pastor

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a growing Christian, deepening his/her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord, and modeling this faith relationship to others (1 Timothy 3:1-13). This must include a visible commitment to prayer, submission to the authority of Scripture, and dedication to living out the truth of God’s Word (2 Tim 3:16).
Must have a calling from God to serve in the ministry of the local church.
Desirable spiritual gifts: administration, service, helps, encouragement, faith, and leadership.
Must be willing to support realization of the church’s vision, mission, core values, and biblical priorities.

COMPETENCIES AND TRAITS:
Knowledgeable in areas of finance, general insurance liability, and Human Resources. Familiarity with budgets, P & L statements, and balance sheets. The ability to lead in these areas reflects best practices for churches and non-profits
Ensure the integrity and business controls surrounding the documented system of accounting policies and procedures, including identifying and recommending updates
Full understanding and operation of software including Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks
Ability to learn new technologies, including Breeze (Church Database) and Vanco (Online Giving) or other database management software and programs necessary for efficient management of Immanuel Church data
Must be a teachable, team player able to work positively and constructively with staff, lay leaders, and volunteers.
Must respect the authority of the Senior Pastor and lay leaders of the church.
Must handle conflict resolution with excellence (using the biblical model outlined in Matthew 18:15-17 as a guide).
Must possess, and continually develop, strong interpersonal skills including oral and written communications.
Must be a person who is a self-starter and strategic thinker, able to multi-task and work independently.
Must be able to delegate and equip people to do projects related to finance needs.
Must demonstrate emotional maturity, trustworthiness, confidentiality, and honesty.
Must interact with others with kindness, congeniality, integrity, Christian love, and compassion.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
College degree preferably in finance, business administration, human resources, or another similar field
Minimum of five (5) years working in accounting or applicable experience with a specific understanding of GAAP financial reporting
Knowledge of or experience with nonprofit organizations (either paid or volunteer)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
All work is completed in-person generally at the Lakeside Park Campus
Days of hours of work are generally business hours Monday through Friday with occasional evenings or weekends as needed
