The Crossroads Director of Security has the primary responsibility to oversee security and safety programs for all Crossroads campuses, locations, or events. This position oversees development and implementation of security and safety practices, ensures compliance with local, state and federal rules and regulations, acts as liaison with law enforcement and private security agencies, develops volunteers and provides training. This role ensures secure and safe environments for the weekend or large gathering services, staff, children and students, volunteers and guests and property assets. This position is an Exempt Full-time position and reports to the Director of People Culture and Equity and is responsible for two direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The Weekend

  • Provide pastoral staff protection and coordinates the movement and safety of the lead pastor, his family, guest speakers, and others as needed at church sponsored services and or events.
  • Develop and pastor the team of volunteers and police details at all sites.
  • Ensure sites are appropriately staffed with safety volunteer teams and security detail.

During the Week

  • Serve as consultant to leadership, national office and campus teams on various security and safety plans, issues, and incidents to provide a secure environment.
  • Develop and expand relationships with law enforcement and private security contacts and details, and with security volunteers.
  • Advise ministry teams to develop and implement security and safety procedures to minimize inherent risks.
  • Create security and safety policies and procedures and ensure compliance within each ministry. (e.g., weather, fire, active shooter, firearms, bomb, kidnapping, etc.).
  • Develop annual budget preparation to ensure adequate funds for the operation of the security and safety programs.
  • Lead the development of risk assessments of premises for burglary, robbery, theft, fire and severe weather.
  • Point of contact with local law enforcement, fire and EMS offices (services) to prevent or investigate incidents for protective services at various church sponsored services and events both on and off campus.
  • Partner with Community Pastors to understand site needs and assess campuses to evaluate needs for security and safety services.
  • Stays updated on all national and local safety and security incidents to ensure ongoing safety of church sites and attenders.
  • Conduct investigations of accidents or incidents on church property as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Criminal Justice or related field from four-year college or university preferred; or one to two years of related training; or equivalent combination of education and training.

In addition, this position requires five years of related experience. Related experience includes law enforcement or public safety experience, investigative and supervisory experience, monitoring (surveillance) systems, working knowledge of security protocols, proficiency in control techniques for hostile persons and ability to recognize and react to hostile / hazardous events and persons.

  • This person needs to have a great mix of pastoral skills plus the ability to work well within all ministries.
  • He/She needs to determine the overall success of security protocols and consult with the ministry leaders to adjust when needed.
  • Must be able to handle conflict and diffuse situations effectively
  • Must be a self starter with a teachable spirit
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Must be an excellent communicator, both verbally and and in writing
