POSITION PURPOSE

The bookkeeper takes care of the day-to-day financial transactions of the church and makes sure that the books are kept accurate. This position must function independently taking ownership of and driving areas of assigned responsibility ensuring alignment with the purpose, vision, and mission of GBC and all affiliated ministries.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides any and all requested assistance to the Campus Finance Director and Staff of GBC.
  • Primary responsibility is to maintain records of financial transactions by posting and verifying that transactions are accurate.
  • Responsible for the daily financial activities of the ministry:
    • Run payroll on time and make payroll updates when necessary
    • Manage/monitor cash flow
    • Make necessary transfers
    • Monitor adherence to annual budget for GBC
    • Process accounts payable/receivable
    • Make sure bills are paid on time
    • Generate/manage invoices
    • Oversee the finances of GBMB Missionaries
    • Carry out year-end financial activities such as sending out giving statements, preparing 1099s for vendors, sending out employee W2s, moving files/records and preparing payroll updates for the new year
    • Approve or deny purchase orders based upon budget and cash flow
    • Provide a monthly finance report for staff and trustees
  • Reports frequently to the Campus Finance Director, Trustees, and Finance Committee for cash flow accountability and overall ministry financial status and health.
  • Works closely with accountant to prepare and analyze financial reports.
  • Works closely with the Trustees, Deacons and Finance Committee.
  • Communicates with vendors when necessary.
  • Assume other activities as assigned by the Finance Director and Staff of GBC to further the cause of Christ as related to the functioning of GBC and MCS.

RELATIONSHIPS

This position works closely with the Pastor, Staff, and Campus Finance Director as well as church members and the public at large. Often fields questions and requests from the aforementioned groups and must practice discretion, professionalism, and Christ-likeness in all communications. Management of all resources including finances and personnel must be executed with greatest efficiency and in a spirit of Christ-likeness to ensure proper stewardship throughout the ministry. Incumbent has and must employ freedom of contact and communicates daily with the aforementioned groups keeping them advised of activities and issues which may impact the ministries and/or need immediate attention while independently directing all people and resources within the scope of this position.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Must be a born-again Christian and an active, attending, and participating member of GBC. This position requires possession of a bachelor’s degree and experience in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field. The successful individual will be a strong leader with a solid work ethic, possessing a passion for advancement of the Gospel and desire edification of the local church body. The ideal candidate could meet the primary responsibilities of the position immediately and be fully engaged and independently leading all aspects of the roles within three (3) months.

  • Effectiveness in implementing and managing the vision and mission of the ministry within the areas of assigned responsibility and those individuals with whom they have oversight.
