SUMMARY

This role provides leadership for the team of staff and/or volunteers responsible for the well-being, care and safety of children from Age 6 weeks through Grade 5 during ministry-sponsored classes/events at VCC and the Healing Center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain alignment with VCC/Healing Center childcare programs and Children’s Ministry policies, standards and core values.
  • Assist in training and development of Flex Childcare staff/volunteers.
  • Responsible for shift coverage; shared with other Lead Childcare staff.
  • Provide substitute childcare and teaching during weekend services as needed.
  • Responsible for regular basic cleaning and restocking of supplies and quarterly deep cleaning in childcare areas.
  • Oversee check-in procedures; provide convenient, hospitable and informative welcome for parents and children. Provide security tags, event signs and rosters for parents/children for classes/events.
  • Set up rooms with welcoming activities and check the environment for safety issues.
  • Assign team members to appropriate rooms, as designated by Director, Nursery & Childcare.
  • Release staff early as appropriate; inform Director, Nursery & Childcare of decreased service attendance.
  • Model care and relational ministry to children, engaging them in positive, interactive activities and freeplay.
  • If not providing direct childcare in a room, rotate through rooms to assist and support all team members.
  • Facilitate implementation of programming: prayer, activities/projects, guidelines/checklists.
  • Care for children one-on-one as needed (upset child, diapering, special needs) so team members can focus on the group.
  • Serve snacks and meals.
  • Oversee the check-out process; communicate positively with parents concerning their child.
  • Maintain environment standards: assist team in preparing rooms for the next group, including original furniture/toy set up, cleaning and security tags.
  • Record accurate staff/child ratios and income on rosters. Prepare envelope and place in safe.
  • Complete childcare checklist for each shift scheduled; communicate needs and issues with Director, Nursery & Childcare.
  • Attend All Staff meetings and trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION Preferred: High School Diploma/GED

EXPERIENCE 3 years minimum working with children in church/educational setting

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Sitting, Standing, Walking, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting
