POSITION SUMMARY

Immanuel UMC is a multisite church in Northern Kentucky. The Maintenance Assistant position is part of our administration and operations team. This position brings support and expertise to help Immanuel UMC accomplish our mission. This position reports directly to the Executive Minister and Administrator and secondarily to the Maintenance Manager.

The Maintenance Assistant is responsible in assisting to maintain all church facilities. The Maintenance assistant will assist in the oversight of church facilities and equipment issues with regards to functionality and appearance, preventative maintenance and repairs. Responsibilities include working directly with the Executive Minister and Administrator, Volunteers, Ministers, Office Staff, Wedding Coordinator, and Contracted Maintenance Services and in assisting with the setup of facilities for church events and building operations. The Maintenance Assistant interacts with other pastoral and ministerial staff and lay leaders, in the performance of the responsibilities of this position.

Assist Maintenance Manager with maintenance and appearance of facilities in the following areas:

  • Lakeside Park and Boone Campus
  • Parking lots, Playgrounds, Church equipment (non-office); All church-owned/related ground

Assist Maintenance Manager with general maintenance work in buildings:

  • Assist and/or perform minor repairs to doors, windows, cabinets, floors, ceilings, etc.
  • Assist with touchup paint and make cosmetic repairs
  • Inspect church properties daily and/or weekly and assist with maintaining a checklist of priorities
  • Assist as needed with: Minor plumbing and electrical repairs Minor installation or carpentry projects
  • Maintain and change light bulbs throughout all facilities and on grounds as required
  • Maintain the church facilities in compliance with all codes from the city, county, and state
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel (in collaboration with the Church Executive Minister and Administrator)

Assist with general maintenance of grounds:

  • Assist with snow and ice removal of sidewalks (coordinate with contracted service on the parking lot)
  • Assist with Minor projects/repairs on playgrounds, fencing, etc.
  • Assist with minor tree and branch removal
  • Assist with minor landscaping
  • Assist with cleaning and maintaining parking lots, entrances, and playground area
  • Assist with maintenance equipment responsibilities: Keep the maintenance area clean and organized Maintain proper storage of chemicals and consumables Maintain and service all tools and equipment

Assist with janitorial responsibilities:

  • Assist with or facilitate, cleaning of areas not covered by regular janitorial service
  • Assist with the ordering and control of all janitorial supplies (as directed by Church Executive Minister and Administrator)
  • Refill restroom supplies when necessary (as backup to janitorial service)
  • Perform or oversee other janitorial functions such as periodic floor and high area cleaning
  • Work with other staff to keep closets and HVAC areas clean and orderly

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide active support for major repairs and projects when called upon
  • Assist office personnel with lifting as may be required from time to time
  • Assist in set-up and take-down activities before and after functions
  • Assist volunteers whenever possible
  • Attend staff meetings (when requested by the Church Executive Minister and Administrator or Senior Pastor)
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned for any and all operational and maintenance needs

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a growing Christian, deepening his/her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord, and modeling this faith relationship to others (1 Timothy 3:1-13). This must include a visible commitment to prayer, submission to the authority of Scripture, and dedication to living out the truth of God’s Word (2 Tim 3:16).

COMPETENCIES AND TRAITS:

  • Ability to learn new technologies, eSpace, Webex, Logix, etc. or other database management software and programs necessary for efficient management of Immanuel UMC.
  • Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and intelligently delegate.
  • Must be a teachable, team player able to work positively and constructively with staff, lay leaders, and volunteers.
  • Must respect the authority of the Senior Pastor and lay leaders of the church.
  • Must handle conflict resolution with excellence (using the biblical model outlined in Matthew 18:15-17 as a guide).
  • Must possess, and continually develop, strong interpersonal skills including oral and written communications.
  • Must be a person who is a self-starter and strategic thinker, able to multi-task and work independently.
  • Must demonstrate emotional maturity, trustworthiness, confidentiality, and honesty.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience – required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Stand or sit for prolonged amounts of time
  • Walk, bend, twist, and kneel
  • Climb up and down stairs
  • Finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds with or without assistance
  • Transportation to & from work location

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • All work is completed in person at our Lakeside Park Campus or Boone Campus
  • Weekdays morning or afternoon 25 hrs. per week (determined during interview process)
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
