Responsibilities:

  • Consult with leadership and staff to determine organization needs for volunteer services.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan.
  • Interview, screen and conduct background checks on volunteer candidates.
  • Develop and implement volunteer training practices that prepare volunteers for their roles serving CAIN’s diverse community of guests.
  • Develop relationships with external volunteer resources such as Ignatian Volunteer Corps, VISTA, student interns, and service-learning programs.
  • Provide regular communication to both current and past volunteers to ensure that the CAIN mission, needs and volunteer and donor opportunities are clearly defined.
  • Create and implement meaningful methods for volunteer recognition and appreciation.
  • Prepare and maintain all documents related to volunteer management, from policies and procedures, to job descriptions, to training manuals and more.
  • Network with and speak to community groups to advance the visibility of CAIN’s volunteer program.
  • Contribute to the development of content for social media, newsletters, annual reports, etc., to recognize volunteer contributions and to help promote the volunteer program.
  • Assist in food pantry and other programs as needed and to cover volunteer cancellations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An associate degree in business management, human resources, or a related field or two years’ experience in human resources, recruitment, community outreach or experience in an organization heavily dependent on volunteers. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Volunteer Management Systems, social media platforms and/or Canva.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, visitors, guests, and external community in a compassionate, respectful manner and in support of CAIN’s mission, vision and values.
  • Spanish proficiency preferred. English proficiency required.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.

Working Conditions: This position functions in a typical office environment. Additionally, this position will aid in food pantry operations and other program areas. As a result, certain visual and physical dexterity is necessary, such as the ability to read labels as well as aid in the moving of food goods weighing up to 40 pounds. Bending, standing, lifting, a wide range of arm movement, finger and hand dexterity are required. This person will have access to sensitive and highly confidential information regarding program operations and guests and must maintain confidentiality.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Masks are optional except during pantry hours when they are required indoors for all guests, volunteers and staff.

  • This is a part time, 20 hour per week position. Must be available Tuesday and Thursday 9 am - 2pm. At least some Monday evenings till 7pm are required. Additional hours up to 20 total are flexible. Do these hours match your availability?
