About
Church, like life, can get overwhelmingly busy and complex. Churches can choke on the secondary issues and completely lose sight of the primary issue. Jesus said the primary issue was to love God and others with everything we have, then go and tell all people of His love and story of His salvation.
The leadership and staff of First Irving have envisioned for our church a simple, biblical, and pointed direction for our future. Our heart and focus is simply: Gathering, Growing, and Going.
Those three key elements are now the three streamlined purposes of our church. Let me explain each of them.
Gathering::
Since the beginning of the church in Acts 2, God’s people have gathered. Scripture is full of examples of people coming together to worship in an assembled setting. “Let us exalt His name together,” 1* “all the Believers had gathered,”3* “Let us not give up in meeting together.” 3* First Irving gathers on Sunday morning to worship our God together at 8:45 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 11:15 a.m. First Irving also gathers on Wednesday evening for worship, Bible study, and prayer at 6:15 p.m.
Growing::
But there is more to the Christian life than just gathering with others;
We are also committed to growing in our faith, understanding, and knowledge. Growing means that we are active in studying God’s Word, active in giving financially to the church, and active in deepening our faith. Just as the roots of a tree grow deep for nourishment, we too want our “roots to grow deep into Jesus.” 4*
First Irving provides Bible Studies on Sunday morning and throughout the week for all ages. We provide Equipping U. classes in the fall and spring to help you grow further in the faith. You can also find other growing opportunities on this website.
Going::
The end result of gathering and growing is our service, our missional activities, and our involvement in the local church. When we go, serve, and participate in the vision and the heart of the church, then we know that we are truly maturing in our faith in Christ. The “going” element is the goal of the process. “You should produce much fruit and show that you are my followers, which brings glory to my Father. You did not choose me; I chose you. And I gave you this work: to go and produce fruit, fruit that will last.” 5*
First Irving has a Global Impact Strategy that reaches from our neighborhood ministries, to national ministries, and to the nations of The Sudan, Mongolia, and Honduras.
