Responsibilities

Scope: Reaching the refugee population in Vickery Meadow through after school homework help and tutoring.

Ministry/Dept.: Outreach

Supervisor: Refugee Ministry Director

Supervises: None

Employee Type: Part -Time

Schedule: 18 hours/week; September May; Monday Thursday 2PM 5:30PM; Saturday 9AM-1PM

FLSA: Non - Exempt

Environment: Community Center

Create and maintain relationships with children and volunteers in the After School program, as well as with NCC staff.
Prepare and organize educational materials for Grades 1-5 under the supervision of refugee ministry leaders.
Check and assist students with homework, as necessary.
Take leadership of a cohort of 8 students, working with a volunteer.
Help children with homework.
Serve as a reading buddy, listening to students read and reading to them.
Lead children in academic activities.
Maintain record of student progress for reading program.
Ensure that the After School rooms are set up correctly each day.
Plan and prepare a daily 15-minute game or activity to engage children as they arrive to After School.
Coordinate and aid volunteers as they lead a 15-minute game time with groups of children.
Perform record-keeping and administrative support functions.
Assist in the coordination and distribution of afternoon snacks.
Maintain order and routine procedures during all activities.
Monitor and report academic progress and behavior of students according to approved procedures.
Tutor middle and high school students, typically on Saturdays.
Other job duties, as necessary.
Requirements

As a religious organization, all employees must affirm and adhere to the Church’s Doctrinal Statement of Faith and Statement on Marriage and Human Sexuality based upon its sincerely held religious beliefs, to qualify for involvement with the ministry. This is necessary to accomplish the Church’s religious mission, goals, and purpose.

Growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and as Lord.
Active attendance and involvement at Northwest Bible Church.
Must be willing to make a minimum of a 10-month commitment to this role (August 2020-May 2021)
Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 25 pounds
Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently
Strong volunteer management skills.
Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
Background in elementary or secondary education strongly preferred
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
