Full Job Description

As the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States, and the single largest in the American South, Dallas/Fort Worth is home to many universities and institutions of higher education. The Research 1 universities in the area are the University of TX – Dallas, University of TX – Arlington and University of North Texas. Research 2 institutions include Southern Methodist University (with the Cox School of Business and Perkins Theological Seminary) and Texas Christian University (with Brite Divinity School). On these campuses we hope to plant and nourish vibrant communities of graduate students and faculty who are witnessing to Christ at the intersection of campus and church as we walk with God in renewing the people, ideas and structures of the university. Additionally, there are over 30 smaller institutions in which we’d like to form new Faculty Communities or assist existing ones.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship’s Graduate and Faculty Ministries (GFM) is seeking an Area Ministry Director (AD) to plant and build campus communities of graduate students and faculty throughout the area. He or she will plant and nurture ministries that give expression to our Core Commitments. In addition, the AD will recruit and hire additional staff for strategic locations throughout North Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, as well as provide ongoing training, support and supervision for these staff as the team grows.

Requirements: In addition to the qualities all GFM Staff should possess, this person will be in a planting context and will need strong gifts in leadership and a commitment to evangelism. The right candidate will have a deep appreciation for our mission field. A graduate degree is preferred but not required. He/she will engage and initiate with a diversity of people, cast vision for a robust Christian presence in academic departments, and gather students and faculty into communities centered on mission. All staff are expected to raise their ministry budget and will receive training in Ministry Partner Development. All applicants must be able to express a strong sense of calling to this mission.

InterVarsity’s Graduate and Faculty Ministries is committed to the spiritual formation and personal development of each person, belonging to a Christian community, a lifestyle of evangelism and service, and integrating faith, learning, and practice. This staff person will need to embrace and engage the organizational breadth of InterVarsity. For a greater sense our ministry with graduate and professional students and faculty, visit gfm.intervarsity.org.
