General Position Summary: This part-time position involves working directly with middle and high school youth, building appropriate relationships and leading them to become active disciples of Christ by collaborating with parents and volunteers to engage, evangelize, and catechize the youth. Provides leadership for adult volunteers and coordination to link the youth with Diocesan youth activities.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Implements and assists with development of sound evangelization and catechetical curriculums in the area of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy and sacraments, moral life and prayer that have been approved by the Diocese and developed/selected by the Director of Youth Ministry.
  • Specifically responsible for students in grades 6, 7 & 8.
  • Ensures (with assistance of Formation Administrator) necessary administrative requirements are followed, including but not limited to parental consent, safe environment, activity reporting and analysis, budget management.
  • Maintains current records on all youth participating in programs and all adult leaders.
  • Create and maintain student rosters and attendance records
  • Maintain records for children and teens participating in Sacrament Preparation
  • Develops, promotes, and maintains social media platforms to evangelize the youth.
  • Invites, motivates, evaluates, and promotes faith formation of small group leaders, youth, and adult leaders.
  • Professional development through ongoing study, education, workshops, etc.

Supervision Given and/or Received:

  • Responsible for supervising volunteers and assisting with volunteer recruitment
  • Under the supervision of the Pastor/Director of Youth Ministry

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works primarily in gathering spaces (parish hall, classrooms, gym) as well as in a typical office environment
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds

Travel Requirements:

  • Limited to Diocesan and/or parish youth events

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • The minimum requirements include active participation in leadership roles in high school youth ministry and/or college campus ministry programs, and at least 60 hours of college credit, and a demonstrated basic knowledge of the doctrines of the Catholic faith.
  • Ideally, a candidate would hold a bachelor’s degree in education or theology, with 1-3 years experience or active participation as a leader in their own high school and/or college campus ministry programs.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites and liturgies
  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church including an in-depth familiarity with its structures, functions, and institutions
  • Skill in public speaking and/or education
  • Ability to relate to and build appropriate relationships with youth.
  • Ability to effectively manage group dynamics as well as interpersonal relationships to yield positive outcomes.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks, complete tasks per established guidelines, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time-management techniques.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate in English (conversing, reading, and writing).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
  • Musical ability a plus
