General Position Summary: Good Shepherd is seeking a missionary team player who is committed to guiding children and their parents into Eucharistic relationship with Jesus through the Church. The Program Assistant is part of a team that is passionate about a clear path of discipleship and presenting the Deposit of Faith “whole and entire, in all its rigor and vigor” (Catechesi Tradendae, 30) This position is primarily responsible for assisting and supporting the Director of Children’s Formation in a comprehensive faith formation program and sacramental preparation process for grades K-5th.

Principal Accountabilities:

Faith Formation

  • Support the various ministries, events, and initiatives relating to K-5th
  • Maintain registration for faith formation K-5th.
  • Maintain class folders and attendance.
  • Communicate with Parents on a weekly basis.

Sacramental Preparation

  • Prepares materials for workshops and maintains the records for first communion preparation.

Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:

  • Participates in weekly standing meetings
  • Ensures a consistent, joyful, and accessible sacrament [LN2] preparation process
  • Ensures records are well kept and sensitive information is handled responsibly and professionally
  • Makes ongoing efforts to participate in the communal and sacramental life of Good Shepherd and seeks to build relationships with staff and catechists
  • Communicate timely with incoming questions and concerns regarding Children’s Faith Formation

Supervision Given and/or Received:

This position reports to the Director of Children’s Formation who ultimately reports to the Director of Faith Formation. Not responsible for supervising others.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Fixed worked schedule. Though, the needs in the Parish may vary (i.e. working some nights and potentially Saturdays and Sundays)
  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding business needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.

Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required for ongoing Diocesan training and for staff development

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Associates Degree

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint[LN3]
