General Summary of the Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Security and Emergency Management, the Associate Director will provide consultation, planning, and guidance to the Pastoral Center of the Diocese, Parishes, Schools and other Diocesan entities to conduct investigations and/or provide guidance regarding emergencies, crisis management and security issues. This position will assist the Director of Security and Emergency Management in conducting investigations and inquires. This position will also track incidents that require reporting, performing security audits and surveys, providing training and coordinating security for special events (to include protest management).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

  • Conduct or assist in investigations and inquiries when requested by the Diocese, Parishes or Schools providing reporting or situation analysis.
  • Coordinate campus safety and crisis management for all diocesan parishes and schools. Coordinating with local, county or federal law enforcement or other entities that can provide assistance.
  • Incident tracking reporting and response regarding threats, suspicious acts, school lock downs, personal injuries, medical emergencies, police incidents, fire incidents, or facility incidents to include destruction of property.
  • Conduct security audits and surveys for parishes and schools, providing a comprehensive plan to secure the property, parishioner and students.
  • Provide training to parishes and schools to increase incident management, awareness, response and general security.
  • Coordinate, plan and work specials events in and around the Diocese, working with parish and schools’ staffs to ensure safety for all attendees.
  • Provide security and safety for the Pastoral Center ensuring the safety and well-being of all employees and clergy of the building.
  • Coordinate the risk management of parishes and schools with the Diocesan Liability Insurance Group.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communications – able to write clearly and concisely, speak effectively and make presentations.
  • Problem Solving – able to investigate, respond, interview, report and provide solutions to problems that arise anywhere in the diocese.
  • Training - able to develop and provide training to all diocesan personnel at parishes and schools.
  • Technology –Intermediate user of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, required.
  • Planning and Organizing – ability to plan and organize independently to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner. Must be able to coordinate and liaison with other entities.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field, preferred.
  • Previous Law Enforcement, Security or Crime Prevention training and/or certifications, required.
  • Investigative and Instructor experience and certifications, preferred.
  • Very familiar with State and Federal criminal laws, respective enforcement agencies and administrative resources available through the Department of Education, Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, and other law enforcement or administrative agencies
  • Advanced training and experience in Disaster Planning and Emergency Management
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and facilitation skills

Special Requirements:

  • Hours are 9am to 5pm. Must be flexible and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays when requested. Must be able to travel off-site for long distances to visit Parishes and Schools when required
  • Practicing Catholic, highly preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish, preferred.

Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:

  • Must be able to walk extensively, climb ladders and lift objects up to 50 lbs. Must be able to perform work outside in undesirable weather when required.
