Scope: To direct and oversee Accounting and Facilities department as well as oversee the general business affairs of the church (such as information technology, insurance/risk management, legal) according to professional standards, established policies and procedures and legal responsibilities.

Management and Supervision

  • Supervise all employees assigned as direct reports according to performance management procedures established by the church.
  • Develop and plan short and long-term department objectives in support of the church's organizational goals and objectives.
  • In coordination with Facilities Manager, ensure the proper and efficient maintenance of church facilities and the long-term planning for adequate funding of capital improvements.
  • Manage the various business functions of the church including IT, risk management and basic legal issues (in consultation with attorneys).
  • Lead and/or attend a variety of meetings with Elders, Finance Committee and Pastoral staff to review and discuss accounting and financial matters and systems.
  • Perform other administrative duties or special projects as assigned by supervisor.

Financial Operations

  • Oversee general financial operations of the church.
  • Direct and perform financial accounting functions to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information including all standard financial statements.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the accuracy of financial reporting as well as payroll, accounts payable and receivable, cash accounting, program and donor accounting, and fixed assets accounting.
  • Coordinate the preparation for and the completion of the annual audit including preparation of financial statements, notes, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain and implement a set of accounting processes and procedures to ensure internal financial controls are in place to safeguard the assets of the church.
  • Develop and report financial and operating metrics to assess effectiveness of operations.
  • Plan and drive the annual budget process with significant support from the Lead Accountant.
  • Provide financial analyses as needed for reporting and planning purposes.
  • Assure integrity of the accounting software systems is maintained.
  • Manage the administration, funding and reporting of the Defined Benefit Plan.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all government and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee, review and manage appropriate levels of coverage for all types of insurance related to property, casualty, liability, cybersecurity and other risk factors.
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager and Security Director, develop and communicate Risk Management process, controls and contingency plans related to risk factors such as natural disasters, campus security and workplace safety.

  • Growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and as Lord.
  • Support of the mission, vision and values of Northwest Bible Church.
  • Willingness to become a member of Northwest Bible Church is recommended but optional. Current involvement in the local church is required.
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting, business or relevant area of study.
  • MBA or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
  • 10+ years in a medium to large corporation or nonprofit, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Understanding of general business principles such as facility management, risk management, legal, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability and willingness to learn new products as may be required.
  • Previous managerial experience.
  • Effective communicator.
