The role of a case manager (I, II) is to provide quality, low cost or pro-bono immigration legal services to newly arrived Afghanistan refugees in North Texas. This includes legal advice, representation in front of USCIS, accompaniment to interviews as needed, client advocacy, and referral to other services as needed. The Case Manager coordinates all aspects of a client's case, including client communication, relevant research, drafting personal statements, preparing immigration forms, and advocacy with law enforcement and other agencies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with legal education efforts, including planning and providing of workshops, producing legal education materials, and conducting outreach to social service and community-based organizations
  • Remains current with law, literature and community needs and trends
  • Provide legal representation in immigration cases, primarily affirmative petitions.
  • Sign and file petitions for immigration relief and provide accompaniment when requested by client or as needed including Family petitions (consular process and adjustment of status), citizenship applications, Special Immigrant Visa Applications, Chief of Mission request forms, adjustment of status, humanitarian parole, asylum, work authorization, among other.
  • Apply to become a Department of Justice Accredited Representative after one year and maintain accreditation during time at Catholic Charities Dallas
  • Manages client cases once open, to ensure proper and timely consideration by government officials.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education & Training

  • B.A. Degree preferred.
  • Two plus years immigration experience preferred
  • Cultural Competency

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Attends immigration training seminars and read daily immigration law updates to remain abreast at all times of the immigration law and procedures.
  • Conduct intakes and make determinations regarding eligibility for immigration relief.
  • Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Catholic Charities.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; verbal and written communication skills in English and Dari, Farsi, Urdu, and / or Pashto
  • Ability to effectively interact with individuals from diverse cultures and ethnicities.
  • Computer literate and experience with MS Office suite of products
  • Strong organizational and time management skills required.

Other Duties

  • Participate in outreach events in the community and in partner agencies
  • Coordinate and supervise out of office clinics and consultations (citizenship workshops, consultations with partner agencies, etc.)
  • Adheres to agency and professional code of ethics.
  • Attends immigration training seminars and read daily immigration law updates to remain up to date of the immigration law and procedures updates and changes. Maintain accreditation.
  • Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Catholic Charities.

Founded in 1976, ILS focuses on family reunification, citizenship, and assistance to the most vulnerable immigrants, including domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, crime victims, refugees, asylum seekers, detained individuals, unaccompanied minors, and removal defense.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.23 - $24.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Weekend availability

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Case Management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Public speaking: 1 year (Preferred)

Language:
