General Position Summary: Good Shepherd is seeking a missionary team player who is committed to guiding adults and families into Eucharistic relationship with Jesus through the Catholic Church. The Coordinator of Adult and Family Formation is part of a team that is passionate about a clear path of discipleship and presenting the Deposit of Faith “whole and entire, in all its rigor and vigor” (Catechesi Tradendae, 30).

This position is primarily responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive faith formation program and sacramental preparation process for adults with a special emphasis on parent catechesis. This consideration towards parents and the family will be at the forefront of Good Shepherd’s planning and activity. It will be the organizing principle which gives coherence to the other catechetical offerings in the parish.

 


Principal Accountabilities:

Evangelization

  • Create cohesive ministries, events, and initiatives relating to adults
  • Assist the Director of Faith Formation in developing a plan for holistic family-based evangelization (models, new/current offerings, etc.)
  • Prioritizes the proclamation of the kerygma in any and all evangelization efforts

Catechesis

  • Faith Formation programming for adults
  • Sacramental Preparation
  • Marriage Preparation
  • RCIA
  • Adult Confirmation
  • Catechist recruiting and ongoing training

Ministry and Mission

  • Assist the Director in providing direction and vision for existing and future parishioner-led ministries that primarily target adults and families such as,
    • Adult Scripture Studies
    • Christ Renews His Parish
    • Unify (Event for Families)
    • Marriage Enrichment
    • School of Discipleship

 


Typical Decisions and/or Recommendations Made in This Position:

  • Participates in weekly tactical meeting and has ongoing collaboration in department vision, execution, and analysis with the formation staff
  • Ensures a consistent, joyful, and accessible sacrament preparation process
  • Ensures records are well kept and sensitive information is handled responsibly and professionally
  • Makes ongoing efforts to participate in the communal and sacramental life of Good Shepherd and seeks to build relationships with staff and catechists

 


Supervision Given and/or Received:

  • Overseen by the Director of Faith Formation

 


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible work schedule. Though, the needs in the Parish may vary (i.e., working some nights and potentially Saturdays and Sundays)
  • The work of this position takes place in a typical office environment and is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding parish needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.

 


Travel Requirements:

  • Some travel required for ongoing Diocesan training and for staff development

 


Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Catechetics, Pastoral Studies, or related field
  • Minimum six years of experience in Parish ministry

 


Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Catholic doctrine and beliefs as presented in the documents of Vatican Council II, the RCIA process, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other relevant Church and catechetical documents
  • Ability to cast vision and lead teams of volunteers
  • Ability to develop and manage large scale events
  • Ability to create and market original offerings
  • Ability to speak in front of large crowds
  • Ability to critically assess progress and implement improvements
