The Director of Cultural Diversity, under the direction of the Senior Director of Ministries, is responsible for promoting advocacy, collaboration, and proper resources to empower Catholics from various culturally diverse communities into a fuller participation in the faith life and evangelizing mission of our Church in the Diocese of Dallas. The director serves as an advisor to the Senior Director of Ministries in matters of cultural diversity and people with special pastoral needs. The director collaborates with all offices under the Ministries Office for a comprehensive response to our fast-growing diverse Church.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Ministries, serves as a resource and advisor to the Ministries Offices on issues and initiatives that impact cultural diversity in the diocese.
Collaborates intentionally and systematically with all Ministries Offices to have a more comprehensive ministry that welcomes and honors the gifts that each culture brings.
Studies trends affecting the cultural diverse ministry of our diocese.
Provides awareness so parishes can serve effectively the faithful from different cultural backgrounds.
Develops, plans, and implements systematic ministerial best practices with parishes leadership.
Provide the appropriate formation and development of pastoral leaders offering the necessary skills, training and attitudes in order to best lead the different cultural communities.
Participate and advocate for initiatives promoting intercultural competencies, unity and diversity appreciation as resource to the clergy, Diocesan personnel, parish staff and ministry leaders.
Collaborate with Diocesan departments and partner agencies to develop formation and ministry opportunities at all levels.
Provide advocacy, guidance, and collaboration for ministerial activities that nurtures the Hispanic/Latino, the Black, Nigerian, Asian and Pacific Islander and other Catholic communities present within the Diocese of Dallas.
Serve as a member on the Interracial Healing Task Force.
Facilitates inter-parish collaboration and support intercultural participation in parish life.
Promotes initiatives hosted by the cultural diverse communities throughout the Diocese by a means of regular communication throughout the diverse Diocesan platforms (printed media, social media, and other forms of publication available).
Creates and oversees a diocesan advisory committee representative of the culturally diversity of our local Church.
Represent the Diocese at regional and national conferences, committees and public events as requested.
Prepare and oversee the budget for the Office of Cultural Diversity department.
Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Practicing Catholic in good standing with an understanding and appreciation for cultural diversity within the Catholic Church
Excellent communication skills with the flexibility to adapt to various groups.
Excellent written and oral communication in both English and Spanish
Planning, organizational and problem-solving skills
Self-starter and highly self-motivated with limited supervision needed
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed
Open and willing to travel throughout the Diocese as needed
Proficient in Microsoft Suite: Word, Publisher, Access, Excel and PowerPoint

Education and Experience:
Masters’ degree in theology, religious education or pastoral ministry is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in culturally diverse ministries at the parish or Diocesan levels

Special Requirements:
Special hours or days required for the position (if applicable)
Whether the position requires the person to be a practicing Catholic with thorough knowledge and understanding of Catholic teachings as either preferred or required.

Physical Requirements Specific to the Job:
Indicate N/A or Indicate basic physical requirements to perform the job. This is especially necessary for manual maintenance positions; positions requiring moving objects with a certain weight. We are not required to include physical requirements if it is not essential to the job itself.
