General Position Summary:
The vibrant and growing parish family of St. Michael Catholic Church in Bedford, TX is seeking a spirit-filled, highly inspired, and inventive individual for the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry position.

Under the supervision of the Director of Religious Education and in line with the vision of the Pastor, and with his support and understanding, as well as with collaboration with volunteer coordinators of religious education, this position works with the Parish in assisting youth (grades 6th-12th) and young adults (age 18-35), in becoming active, lifelong disciples in Christ through a pastoral, liturgical and catechetical approach of faith formation. The coordinator provides primary leadership for articulating and implementing the diocesan vision of youth & young adult ministry within the parish. The coordinator is also responsible for establishing a collaborative relationship with parents and families of youth to assist them in their role as primary teachers of the faith as well as foster an atmosphere of accompaniment and discipleship among young adults. All catechetical instruction must be in accordance with the magisterial teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Principal Accountabilities:
Implement a process of youth and adult formation along with sacramental preparation (RCIA, RCIA-Adapted for youth, and Confirmation for both teens and adults) that is that is in accordance with the vision of the Department of Evangelization & Catechesis and the Sacramental Preparation Guidelines of the Diocese of Fort Worth.
Develop and implement a process of evangelization and catechesis for young adults to include vocation discernment, prayer, events & retreats, leadership development, community service, and outreach to young adults in the local community.
Plan, execute, and participate in various youth ministry activities: weekly youth nights, discipleship meetings, parish and diocesan youth events and retreats, opportunities for prayer, local community service, fundraising activities, etc.
Recruit and form adult volunteers to minister to youth, and their families, by providing opportunities for adults to participate in diocesan approved and/or sponsored catechetical workshops, while also ensuring Safe Environment compliance.
Manage annual youth and young adult ministry budget for approval. Additionally, keep record of youth activity reports, youth evaluations, youth liability forms, etc. and provide information to supervisor as requested.
Continue professional development through participation in diocesan catechetical workshops, youth ministry workshops, catechetical conferences, diocesan formation institutes, and/or continuing education in theology or catechesis at a Catholic University.
Serve as a member of the parish staff, participate in decision-making regarding total parish direction and activities, and attend all parish staff and faith formation staff meetings

Accountable for financial decisions that impact the department or contributes to financial decisions that impact parish. May participate broadly in the overall budgeting process.

Supervision Given and/or Received:
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will report directly to the chief of staff.
This individual will coordinate and develop volunteers.
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is part of the overall Catechetical team of the Parish.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Working office will be the Formation Center of St Michael’s parish.
Able to sit and perform computer work for periods of time.
Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Frequent walking, standing, and sitting.
Travel required for retreats, conferences, and youth ministry workshops.
Occasional work in an outdoor environment.

Travel Requirements:
Infrequent travel may be required for retreats, conferences, and youth ministry workshops, up to 10%. Mileage reimbursement will apply.

Education and Experience Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Catechesis, Youth Ministry, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field of study from an accredited Catholic college or university preferred, but not required.
Associate’s Degree or vocational/technical school degree/certification is required.
Graduate of the St. Junipero Serra Institute, John Paul II Lay Ministry Formation Program, or similar diocesan formation program is desirable.
If applicant has a limited educational background, then sufficient work and volunteer parish experience is expected along with a certificate in Youth Ministry from an approved Catholic institution or institute.
Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing, serving as a humble model of what a living witness to the Gospel should be.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the Catholic Church, Catholic sacraments, Catholic rites, and liturgies
Knowledge of the Catholic Church including an in-depth familiarity with its structures, functions, and institutions
Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices (including use of spreadsheet software), accounting principles, investment, and financial reporting methodologies
Knowledge of Young Adult Ministry, Knowledge of Catholic Youth Ministry, Evangelization, and Catechesis (including Church documents related to these areas)
Skill in public speaking.
Skill in strategic planning.
Skill in writing and editing various documents.
Skill in event management.
Ability to carry out multiple tasks, complete tasks per established guidelines, and meet deadlines.
Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time-management techniques.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
Other: Ability to work with youth, ages 12-35 (especially 12-18) and their families, to ensure their safety; Ability to work nights and weekends; Ability to travel moderately within the diocese to attend youth events, ministry workshops, catechetical in-services, etc.
Intermediate proficiency with MS Office required.
Basic proficiency with desktop publishing required (Canva, MS Publisher, etc.)
Advanced proficiency with social media required.
