Qualifications and Requirements
A bachelors degree and/or certificate in child development or a related field is required, and a basic knowledge of child development is required in addition to at least one year work experience with young children. All teachers must be at least 18-years-old with a minimum education of a bachelors degree. Teachers must be Christians and actively involved in a local church and help children to learn about God in accordance with the Bible. Teachers must complete 24 hours of approved child development training yearly including: Recognizing Child Abuse and Neglect, as well as receive CPR, and first aid training and certification.
Characteristics of a Good Teacher
- Good physical and mental health.
- Professional in appearance.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, and show pleasure in working with and caring for children.
- Show respect to and relate positively towards children and adults.
- Write a lesson plan using The Day School curriculum.
- Enhance the lesson plans by changing the interest areas to correspond with the curriculum.
- Have classroom supplies and resources ready at the start of each day.
- Attend mandatory training and meetings.
- Document the occurrence of significant incidents, and notify the Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Change out toys and activities to coordinate with curriculum.
- Share the responsibility of lesson planning with co-teacher
- Know Minimum Standards for the Pre-K age group.
- Know the Texas Kindergarten readiness for how prepared a child is to succeed in school, cognitively, socially and emotionally.
- Be able to physically sit on the floor and stand up from sitting
- Inform office of repairs or maintenance as soon as possible.
- Adhere to cleaning and sanitizing regulations regarding hard surfaces, nap cots, tables, and toys after each activity.
- Take direction from the lead teacher.
- Attend mandatory training conducted by the Day School.
- Document the occurrence of significant incidents, and notify the Director.
- Two teachers must be present in classroom at all times.
