Spiritual

Must be a growing Christian—deepening his/her personal relationship with Jesus Christ and modeling this to others. 

  1. Must be an active member of a local church.
  2. A desire to see children and their families come to know, love and follow Jesus Christ.
  3. Supportive of PCBC’s doctrinal statement, leadership and overall ministry.

Personal

  1. Must have a love for children.
  2. Teachable, team player, able to relate well to other people of all ages.
  3. Ability to take direction and to work independently.
  4. Personable, creative and a self-starter.
  5. Basic sports knowledge and ability is required (must be in good physical condition but not necessarily an athlete).

Professional

  1. Training in ministry, education, and/or recreation is helpful but not required. 
  2. Experience in sports or children’s ministry is helpful but not required.
  3. Report to and serve under the direction of the Sports & Recreation Director.
  4. Work supportively with all church staff and volunteers.
  5. Maintain great working relationships with coaches and directors.
  6. Cultivate contacts with children and families in the congregation.

 

Responsibilities

  1. General:
    1. To assist the Sports & Rec Director in providing, staffing, and directing sports and rec programs and camps throughout the year, with the ultimate goal of helping people come to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ. 
  2. Specific:
    1. Communication/Coordination - Assist in the communication and promotion of programs and camps.
    2. Supervision - You along with the camp coach/director/counselor are responsible for the supervision of every child in attendance.
      1. Know and follow PCBC’s “MinistrySafe” Child Safety Policies located in your background check.
    3. Administration - Assist in the programming/staffing and administration of programs and camps as time allows. 
    4. Training/Equipping - Directly work with kids teaching them about sports (rules, skills, sportsmanship) and about God, all with the ultimate purpose of bringing them closer to God through an understanding of Scripture, salvation, and discipleship).
    5. Family Outreach - Seek to establish intentional relationships with not only the participants of the programs and camps, but also their families as opportunities arise.

 

  Schedule and Expectations

  1. Position schedule will vary depending on current season/programs. 
  2. There may be other Sports Outreach Ministry or General Church activities at which attendance will be required or requested.  
  3. Attendance and Punctuality
    1. You are expected to show up at your scheduled time, ready to work each time that you are scheduled.
  4. Cell phone usage: During camps/programs cell phones will be left in the Activities Building front desk. During activities outside of the church campus, cell phones are required to remain put away except in cases of emergency. 
  5. Social Media: Please aware of your posts and other’s posts that you might be tagged in. Remember you are representing God, Park Cities Baptist Church, and the Sports and Recreation Ministry.
