Purpose of This Position

The vision of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is to lead all generations to become transformed followers of Jesus, for the flourishing of our city and beyond.

 

The Highland Kids + Students + Families Department seeks to advance that vision through proclaiming the Gospel, equipping, and resourcing families for life and godliness, and discipling the next generation of believers to be Christ followers.

Desired Results/Impact of This Position

  • Progress toward Vision 100 goal:
    • “New Followers of Jesus” as evidenced by kids trusting in Jesus for salvation through contact work, Ministry environments, trips, and events.
    • 100% of our Covenant Partners Growing in their Faith as evidenced by excitement about being part of HP Pres, increasing kids and students Sunday attendance and involvement in the greater life of the church.
  • Increased relational quality and frequency with kids and students who are part of HP Pres Kids and Students Ministry.
  • Increased participation in our ministry environments by both volunteers and kids/students.

 

Key Responsibilities

40% - Contact work with kids / students, and lay leaders

  • Relationship building.
    • Meeting for meals, attending games, concerts, activities
    • Work to develop new relationships with kids/students, and volunteers
    • Try to meet with volunteers and parents to build rapport and to partner in discipleship
    • Connect with kids and families at HP Pres Sunday morning main worship services
  • Attend and help facilitate all ministry area events, which may include weekly programming, events, retreats, or mission trips.
  • Attend other ministry area events
  • Return phone calls and emails in a professional and timely manner (24 hrs)

40% - Ministry Planning and Execution

  • Assist in planning annual calendar of events, programs, trips and trainings for parents and volunteers.
  • Prepare for weekly ministry programs (from production, communication, environment, partnership with other staff teams, volunteer roles, e)
  • Partner with other groups on our campus related to your area of ministry
  • Help plan and execute big events such as outreach opportunities, mission trips, retreats, or events.

20% - Staff and Ministry Area Meetings

  • Attend weekly all staff chapel, church staff meetings
  • Meet weekly with Ministry Area Director, and/or Associate Director and area staff team

 

Education, Experience, Skill, Ability Requirements

  • Education: Must have completed freshman year of college
  • Experience: Some or none. The summer internship is meant to help you grow in your faith, connect with other believers, support the ministries of the church and to prayerfully consider if vocational ministry might be what God is calling you to explore.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Intermediate to advanced level of Microsoft Office software
  • Abilities:
    • Creative, energetic self-starter
    • Able to work within a budget
    • Exhibits relational and leadership skills
    • Able to communicate oneself to kids or students in a manner that displays the love of Jesus Christ
    • Able to speak to parents in a clear, confident, and compassionate way
