Communications Manager

Park Hill United Methodist Church (PHUMC) is a multicultural and progressive church in Denver, Colorado..

Over the past two years, PHUMC has expanded its ministries and reach to include both an in-person and virtual community. PHUMC is seeking a strong and talented individual to manage its communications with these communities and with the larger community outside of the church itself.

Role Summary

This position is responsible for and focused on communications duties and responsibilities for those that are already a part of the in person and virtual communities (in-house) as well as communication duties with the larger community that may become part of the Park Hill UMC community (outside communication) in the future.

Key responsibilities

For the “outside” community:

  • Maintain and update the church website and social media accounts

  • Maintain, update, grow, and create as needed the church’s social media accounts/presence including but not limited to Facebook and YouTube

  • Monitor and respond to inquiries in the general church email account

  • Assist in developing worship booklets, programs, brochures, banners and posters

For the in-house community (in-person and virtual):

  • Work with ministry team to plan and produce weekly worship bulletins, both electronic and print

  • Create and distribute the monthly newsletter

  • Create and distribute the weekly electronic newsletter

  • Assist in developing booklets, programs, brochures, banners and posters

  • Prepare special bulletins/programs for funerals, weddings, workshops, etc.

Other position related responsibilities:

  • As the first point of contact when in the church office:

  • Answer the telephone and connect the caller with the appropriate person or situation

  • Greet visitors, salespeople, members, persons requesting a pastor, etc. and assist them accordingly

  • Print envelopes, letterheads, postcards, business cards

  • Oversee the telephone and voicemail systems

  • Order and shop for office supplies

  • Oversee maintenance of copy machine and printeUpdate signage for the Montview outside marquee, the electronic screens located in the coffee bar and the Glencoe Entrance, and other signage as needed

Work with and support the Pastors, Staff, Church leaders, Church Members and others as needed

 

Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in business or a related field would be helpful.

  • Experience working with and managing a diverse group of people

  • Experience with social media and website management

  • Two or more years experience in office management

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact positively and effectively with a diverse group of church members, church employees, community members, and other contacts

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • The ability to develop and train volunteers

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Publisher and Google Docs

  • Proficient in using and updating social media and website accounts

Schedule: Flexible or in-office at least 10 hours per week

Average Hours/Week: 20 -25

Status: Part-time, non-exempt

Location: Park Hill United Methodist Church, Denver, CO

Reports to: Lead Pastor or Executive Pastor
