Full Job Description

St. Mary Catholic Parish and School is seeking an active practicing Catholic to fill the position of Dir of Business Operations. The successful candidate will be in love with their faith and a have a heart for service to the Church. They will also bring a wide variety of gifts and skill sets to the table with experience in non-profit management.

JOB PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Pastor, the Director of Business Operations will have overall operational responsibility for all St. Mary programs and will lead the management team at the parish. As the chief program manager, s/he will provide leadership to the strategic planning process and will implement new programmatic strategic initiatives.
The Director of Business Operations is responsible for the overall health of the business aspects of St. Mary Parish. This individual will run the day-to-day operations of the parish. This is a key, critical role in the parish. This position will be responsible for executing the Pastors vision for the business aspects of the parish.

TYPE: Exempt, Salaried, Full time: 40+ hours per week with benefits
Able to work flexible schedule as necessary (nights, weekends)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (to include but not limited to):
Operational Leadership

  • Responsible for all hiring, staffing, and development planning and processes
  • Development of office staff by training in other parish department tasks and activities
  • Collaborates with the Business Manager on presentations to Finance Council
  • Responsible for Pastoral Council, Manager Meetings and Staff Meetings
  • Leads the sourcing, interviewing, onboarding, and retention processes for hiring and selection of personnel in collaboration with the Pastor
  • Leads parish performance management process for staff including job descriptions, goal setting, and performance appraisals
  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and services, developing a broad and deep knowledge of all programs
  • Identify opportunities for the parish to leverage cross-program strengths to take advantage of new opportunities and/or to address organizational challenges
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain the management team
  • Develop and implement training programs and retreats to expand the capacity of all staff
  • Provide input and coaching to the parish ministry leaders and ministry formation days
  • Assist in streamlining ministries and provide input into consolidation where possible

Communications

  • Develop and implement an overall communications plan for the parish. Oversee all parish-wide communications to ensure parishioners are knowledgeable of major activities and initiatives
  • Oversee communication plan for the parish

Regulatory Compliance & Human Resources

  • Develops strategy for ongoing financial and human resource training
  • Coordinates and prepares parish response to liability and legal concerns, in cooperation with Archdiocesan offices as appropriate. Understands role of canon law
  • Responsible for development, updates, training, and communication of parish policies and procedures manual
  • Facilitates Workers Comp and FMLA

Campus Financial Development and Strategic Planning

  • Responsible for developing long-term strategic plan in collaboration with Pastor and Leadership team. Furthers the mission and vision of the Pastor and DCJM through the office management and direction of staff
  • Mission and vision development and implementation
  • Financial planning and long-term financial growth plan
  • Oversees Contracts of Parish and School including printer/copier and electronics
  • Continue to develop planned giving in collaboration with The Catholic Foundation
  • Maintains relationship with Archdiocese
  • Provide leadership and input for all strategic plan implementation processes with the Pastor and staff. Coach program directors as they implement the strategic plan and transition program operations
  • Develop and implement a system for tracking and reporting on the progress of the strategic plan implementation

TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE PROFILE:

  • BS/BA degree preferred with at least 5 years of experience and a track record in senior program management
  • Practicing Catholic with knowledge of, acceptance and adherence to Church teaching, doctrine and procedures
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach a senior-level staff to manage and develop high-performance teams and develop and implement strategies
  • Deep experience in program budgeting and fiscal management
  • Track record of effectively leading a direct service organization with a complex array of programs with the ability to leverage strengths across program areas; excellent project management skills
  • Analytic and decisive decision maker with the ability to prioritize and communicate staff key objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals
  • Ability to point to specific examples of having led organizational transformation projects and program development
  • Past experience managing human resource function including personnel, compensation, and recruiting
  • Fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent computer skills, preferably experienced in all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, & Power Point)
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of fundamental database concepts (i.e. input, storage, retrieval, reporting, etc.) as demonstrated by prior work or academic experience
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to operational management
