Organization Profile
The primary mission of Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) is to provide financial resources and related services for ministry, witness, and outreach of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS). In so doing it shall raise funds primarily through the issuance of corporate notes and other debt instruments. Its assets shall be used exclusively for the following: To provide financing and services for the acquisition of sites; the construction of facilities; the purchase of buildings and equipment; operating expenses; professional church worker education; the residential housing needs of professional church workers; and other purposes approved by its governing board consistent with the ministry and mission of the Synod under policies approved by the Board of Directors of the Synod.

Reporting Relationships

  • In order to ensure alignment of efforts at the national level of LCEF and LCMS districts, and local level of ministry, the District Vice President reports to the LCEF Vice President, District Solutions.
  • In order to enhance clear communication and ministry partnerships within the District, the District Vice President provides collaborative support to the District President.


Essential Job Functions

  • Acts as consultant to district LCMS congregations by building relationships, identifying needs and proposing solutions provided by district resources (staff) and LCEF resources (loans, investments and ministry services).
  • In collaboration with the marketing department, prepares an annual plan to promote ministry resources, new investments, new loan opportunities, and the general promotion of LCEF as a ministry partner.
  • Prepares an annual portfolio management plan that includes tactics and strategies to manage existing investor relationships and congregational loan customers.
  • Assists in setting district LCEF related organizational goals and objectives. Prepares annual budget for district LCEF program including goals, objectives, and metrics incorporating both district and LCEF national initiatives.
  • Provides reports detailing district activity including loan and investor activity, current promotions and visits with congregations. Provides reports of LCEF activity to district board, district finance committee and District Board for Mission Services where and when applicable.
  • Maintains relationships with LCEF leadership and their respective staff regarding their areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains relationships with District President, district staff, boards, committees and congregations as part of the holistic approach of the district ministry and LCEF support for district functions.
  • Works with the District President in establishing priorities for the earnings distribution.
  • Serves as a member of the District Executive staff and participates in regular meetings and planning retreats.
  • Reviews and modifies annual reimbursement agreements between district and LCEF, where appropriate, prior to signing.
  • Attend LCEF sanctioned functions as required.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, or Finance or related field.
  • Five years of progressive responsibility and experience working in a financial institution or financial environment.

  • A member in good standing of an LCMS congregation with an understanding of, and ability to verbalize, the mission of the church and LCEF.
  • Significant understanding of Church Extension Fund work with the ability to provide leadership, thus instilling confidence and stability in the organization.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and provide consultative skills in carrying out duties.
  • Knowledge of financial terminology and accounting principles.
  • Strong managerial and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead and guide others to assist in carrying out functions of LCEF.
  • Ability to plan, develop and manage an operating budget effectively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to conduct presentations and facilitate meetings. Ability to provide clear direction and feedback and can communicate effectively with various audiences and all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to establish, cultivate and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Collaborative and team mindset that establishes favorable relationships with both LCEF and District staff.
  • Strong self-organization and self-management skills. Proven capability of managing multiple priorities effectively and efficiently with ability to perform under tight deadlines. Excellent attention to detail and follow through.
  • Results-driven, highly motivated, self-starter that is proactive, innovative and creative.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and judgment in confidential matters.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Salesforce or similar CRM, and collaborative business tools. Ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.

  • Extensive travel, primarily at the local (geographic) level as well as regional and national level.
