Office of Evangelization and Family Life Ministries. The Archdiocese of Denver serves the Catholic Community of Northern Colorado and its various parishes, movements, missions, apostolates, and schools in accordance with the Gospel values of the Catholic Church (the Church).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:THE POSITION: Family Faith Formation Specialist works to promote the evangelization, catechesis, and pastoral care of the families in northern Colorado. This includes providing formation, advocacy, and support to increase the full participation of families into the life and mission of the Archdiocese of Denver and its parishes. The Family Formation Specialist oversees the development and implementation of initiatives in the areas of catechesis, family evangelization, and various ministries to the family. All responsibilities are performed under the supervision of the Associate Director of Family Ministry, in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the goals and objectives of the organization.

  • Collaborate with Family Ministry team in the planning, developing and execution of a new model for religious education across the diocese.
    • Implement a new model of family formation (faith and life skills) program across the diocese.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Pastors and Directors of Religious Education to bring the new program and trainings to catechists that will help parents to take initiative to share the faith with their children and live the faith as a family. This includes developing an individual, personal, and lifelong relationship with Christ in parishes and throughout the Archdiocese.
  • Offer accompaniment, support, materials (books, manuals, etc., English and Spanish), and training to parishes and movements to adequately prepare catechists and comply with the standards and norms for faith formation in the Archdiocese to serve the families and their children in religious education.
  • Serve as a resource for parishes in the assessment of their local family ministry needs and assist with the recruitment and ongoing formation and support of volunteers.
  • Assist in the development and execution of ongoing programs and initiatives in areas of marriage and family life such as: Familias Virtuosas (Virtuous Families) and Diálogo entre Mamás (dialogue among women) in collaboration with the Associate Director of Pastoral Juvenil.
  • Initiate and support marriage and family initiatives, projects and opportunities for family gatherings, workshops, trainings, conferences and/or retreats that foster and focus on evangelization and catechesis at the parish and in the homes.
  • Collaborate, advise, and engage with other departments, parishes and ecclesial movements as needed.
  • Meet regularly with the Associate Director of Family Ministry and collaborate on implementing new programs and initiatives in the areas of Marriage and Family Life, in collaboration with other areas of Ministry.
  • Recruit teachers and volunteers and develop orientation processes for ministries.
  • Forecast annual budget and maintain accurate records on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Family Ministry.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree and related experience.
    • Preferably Catechesis and Evangelization
  • Require at least 4 years of program specialist experience.
    • Experience in Catechesis and Formation

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043).
  • Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to the Archdiocese of Denver or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals.
  • Incorporates good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Maintain an appreciation of sensitive information. Presents a positive and business-like image, balanced with an understanding of the ministry of the Church. Possess a strong work ethic.
  • Responsible for teaching Catholic Doctrine on specific topics, according to assignment course or program using instructional methods geared toward the adult Faith development in a classroom setting.
  • Bilingual preferred; fluent in Spanish and English (read, written, and spoken).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effectively work with people from diverse culture and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Clear understanding of the Latino culture.
  • Require knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Access, Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to compose and proofread confidential correspondence, forms, tables, and charts as required.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and patiently.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic changing environment.
  • Must have the ability to recognize sensitive information and maintain strict confidentiality.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to operate computer and mouse, copier/printer, and telephone.
  • Capable of occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and stoop, or kneel.

The employee is frequently asked to drive to parishes and other locations for meetings.
