Description: Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is seeking a caring, cooperative, and motivated part-time literacy specialist for the 2021-2022 school year. The Literacy Specialist is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in the state of Colorado. The teacher is hired by and directly accountable to the principal. The teacher is expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner with colleagues, students, and families. The teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes learning for all students.

The literacy specialist will work with and provide assistance to teachers to promote literacy development for students from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Job Title: Part-Time Literacy Specialist
Grade levels: K-8th
School Year: 2023-2024
Hours: T-TH; 7:30-3:30 with weekly meetings until 4:00 pm

The literacy specialist will work with and assist teachers in promoting
literacy development for students from Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Education and Experience:
Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, preferably in education;
Master's degree with a literacy specialization preferred;
Use of Orton-Gillingham literacy strategies preferred (training available);
Requires appropriate state licensure for teaching;
Compliance with Safe Environment requirements (after being hired).

Other Requirements:
Experience working with children in an educational setting;
Proficiency in using technology;
Requires lifting up to 40 pounds and carrying up to 40 pounds;
Going up and down multiple flights of stairs daily;

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Literacy Specialist will include but are not limited to the following:
Strong knowledge of the content area, teaching methods, learning styles, and research
related to learners with literacy difficulties;
Assist teachers in identifying and responding to the needs of learners with
literacy difficulties;
Plan and collaborate with the K-5 teachers to develop and use appropriate
literacy intervention strategies;
Experience in developing and implementing individualized education programs
(IEPs) and 504 plans;
Knowledge of diagnostic assessments for literacy difficulties;
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians and teachers on the progress of
students;
Attend all required faculty and staff meetings unless exempted or excused by
principal;
Cooperate with the principal and staff members in school-related meetings,
activities and projects;
Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and work environment;
Follows established procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of students;
Maintain state licensure;
Perform teaching duties and all other duties the school principal assigns.
