Job Summary:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Second Grade Teacher to join our team at St. John’s School. St. John’s School is a Christian, K-8 school that has been serving the Denver area for over 130 years. As an extension of St. John’s Church, we pride ourselves on academic excellence, affordability and whole-child education. We have a thriving K-8 school, Early Learning Center, Extended Care Program and Summer Camp, and our parent community is extremely welcoming, supportive and encouraging.

 

Denver, Colorado is a wonderful city to live and work, due to its vibrant urban atmosphere, rich cultural scene, and proximity to the great outdoors. At an elevation of 5,280 feet above sea level, Denver boasts over 300 days of sunshine annually and provides easy access to the Rocky Mountains for outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, and mountain biking. In addition, Denver is known for its thriving food and coffee scene, with numerous local cafes and restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. St John’s School overlooks Washington Park, one of Denver’s most beautiful green spaces, with two lakes, a boathouse, and numerous sports facilities.

 

As a Second Grade Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing, stimulating, and safe environment for young children to grow and develop. You will work closely with parents and other staff members to ensure that our Second Grade class meets the needs of our students, promotes their Christian faith, and prepares them for future academic success.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop and implement lesson plans and activities that meet the needs of individual students and align with the school's curriculum.

  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes faith development, as well as the social, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom culture that supports the school's Christian mission and values.

  • Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, providing regular updates on student progress and addressing any concerns or questions they may have.

  • Assess student progress regularly, using a variety of methods, and adjust instruction as needed to ensure academic success.

  • Work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members to create a cohesive and effective learning community.

  • Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops, and other training sessions as required by the school.

  • Participate in school-wide events, including parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and extracurricular activities.

 

Personal Qualifications:

 

  • Regular and active participation in a Christian church, with a preference for St. John’s Church.

  • Commitment to a Christian worldview and lifestyle, with a willingness to uphold the St. John’s Church and School Code of Conduct, which will be provided prior to a first interview.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience teaching in a Christian school or familiarity with Lutheran theology is a plus.

 

Professional Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices for young children.

  • Colorado teacher certification is preferred. A commitment to pursue licensing within the first two years is acceptable.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States before employment begins.

  • Willingness to undergo a CBI/FBI background check before employment begins.

  • Willingness to uphold the St. John’s School Adult Code of Conduct with Minors, which will be provided prior to a first interview.

 

Benefits and compensation

 

St. John’s School compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience. We offer an excellent benefits package, including health insurance and retirement plan. A significant tuition credit of up to $17,000 annually for staff children enrolled at St John’s School or ELC is also available. Teachers also enjoy the months of June and July fully off, as well as additional breaks during the school year.
