PURPOSE OF POSITION:

SUMMARY

Children's Programming Social Case Worker I designs, organizes, and implements children's program components of Family Services program, drawing in and/or facilitating programming to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of all children and youth staying in shelter from infancy to the teenage years and providing specialized case management support to families in partnership with social case workers, to include assessing needs and strengths of children in shelter, partnering with public school Homeless Education Network social workers to expedite school enrollment, specializing in resources available for children experiencing homelessness, and collaborating with Family Services team to support families with goals around child development, behavior, socialization, and/or parenting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implements program objectives and performance standards as directed by supervisor/ management
  • Facilitates support/educational groups and activities for children and families, may assist in planning curriculum. This may include structured play activities and group games that encourage age-appropriate development and peer interaction, arts and crafts, psychosocial educational groups for children, tutoring, parenting support groups, holiday events, birthday parties, and/or field trips in the community. May be required to watch children in playroom environment for free play.
  • Uses creativity and innovation in program development and service delivery. Expands programming opportunities and referral pathways in collaboration with volunteers and partner agencies in the community.
  • Provides direct support and monitoring to volunteers and opportunity to debrief their experience, in collaboration with volunteer coordination team. Ensures volunteer compliance with policies and procedures including safe environment standards.
  • Maintains collaborative working relationships with other community-based organizations and parishes for reasons of advocacy, education, resource development, referrals, and public relations.
  • Applies appropriate techniques and standards in program development and service delivery of case management services to families and children under close supervision.
  • Performs comprehensive psychosocial assessment of clients within established guidelines through interviewing, record review, and other appropriate methods.
  • Monitors and assesses client progress towards identified goals. Provides supportive services to assist clients in reaching treatment goals.
  • Refers and facilitates connection of participants to needed professional and human service agencies and initiates follow-up services as needed.
  • Works in close collaboration with social case workers in the development of service plans for families particularly regarding child well-being and to assess progress toward identified goals.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date case records; documents client contacts and progress to ensure program compliance and adherence to standards.
  • Authorizes services of the organization based upon assessment of need and availability of resources. Maintains accurate and timely program statistical data to meet reporting requirements.
  • Reflects Catholic Charities' commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect. Demonstrates skills and sensitivity to the cultural/linguistic differences of staff, clients and community.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) from accredited four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.
  • Proficiency in trauma-informed care, de-escalation skills, and motivational interviewing preferred.
  • Knowledge of the basic theories and practices of social work, early childhood development, interviewing and assessment techniques, and professional reports and documents preparation.
  • Knowledge of the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, other employees, organizations and the public are required.
  • Flexible and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of computers to input information, maintain client and program data, and create communications.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary: $19.00 - $20.00/hr commensurate with education and experience. Additional $1 differential available for Spanish fluency.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, flexible and to be determined based on program needs. Since Samaritan House is a residential facility that operates 24-7, as schedule will generally include at least 2 evening shifts or 1 weekend shift per week.
