The Summer Staff Counselor position serves customers of our summer programming through youth supervision, activity facilitation, maintaining certain necessary elements of camp-life (i.e. kitchen help, basic grounds maintenance, program support), and generally providing a spiritually rich environment and experience for any and all who visit Annunciation Heights. Summer staff will have the most direct impact on campers and families during their respective stays at camp through building meaningful relationships and modeling what it means to be a Christian man or woman.

Below, please find a listing of some of the duties pertaining to the “Counselor – General” role as well as additional duties pertaining to the specific roles of “Kitchen”, “Lifeguard”, “Music/Worship”, “Childcare Facilitator”, “Adventure”, “Health Office Aid”, “Media”, and “Maintenance”. All specific roles are still under the purview and context of a “Counselor – General” but with more fixed responsibilities in certain areas.

Essential Duties (Counselor – General):
Lead or assist in leading guests (campers or families) through the programming of a session.
Model true Christian manhood/womanhood for campers and fellow staff.
Participate joyfully and actively in all activities alongside campers, including but not limited to high ropes, climbing, boating, and hiking.
Witness to personal faith through small groups, prayer, and behavior at all times.
Maintain and (teach how to) keep a neat and tidy cabin area
Maintain and (teach how to) keep a neat and tidy dining area.
Maintain and (teach how to) keep a neat and tidy outdoor presence.
Follow all protocol and procedure to ensure supervision and safety of all campers.
Live in residence with campers in cabins.
Work (at least) one full week in the kitchen staff rotation.
Work (at least) one full week in the Rustic camp staff rotation (full camping on-site but outdoors for a week).
Attend staff meetings and staff training.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Kitchen):
Work with full time Kitchen Staff to prepare, serve, and clean up after all meals.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Lifeguard):
Maintain safety and vigilance over the lake area.
Maintain and keep tidy all equipment (PFDs, boats, etc) related to the lake area.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Music/Worship):
Prepare and lead worship music at all relevant and appropriate spiritual and sacramental gatherings with a focus on reverence in the context of camp.
Prepare and lead fun musical times at various points throughout camp programming from campfire songs to dining hall chants.
Be responsible for and competent with all A/V related equipment around the property.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Adventure):
Assist in high ropes, low ropes, archery, zipline, or other activity that requires specific training.
Be willing to cross train and step into various activity rotations.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Childcare Facilitator):

Run point on care for below camp-aged children that are present on camp during youth camp sessions – usually full-time staff children or those of volunteers – from ~9am (Breakfast) until ~5:30pm (Dinner) naps notwithstanding.
Run point on care for toddler and below aged children during family camp sessions.
During adult social nights (family camp), babysit full-time staff children in their homes for the evening and into the nighttime hours.
During youth camps, babysit full-time staff children one night a week (post-dinner through bedtime) on a rotation.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Maintenance):
During activity hours (9-11:30am, 2:30-5:30pm, and other times as assigned), work in project teams with the Operations staff to maintain, develop, and fix aspects of the grounds, facilities, and assets.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Health Office Aid):
Responsible for all medical and health related paperwork.
Assistant to Nurse present on camp.
Required involvement in all medical and health related incidents at camp.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Additional Essential Duties (Counselor – Media):
Responsible for capturing photos and/or film of camp attendees and programming.
Partake in creation and implementation of social media plan and marketing strategy.
Other tasks as required and requested or specified by assigned camp duty.

Experience/Requirements:
Must possess or attain valid First Aid/CPR Certification – in-person required
Must possess or attain valid Lifeguard Certification – in-person required (Counselor – Lifeguard only)
Must possess or attain valid Babysitter Basics Certification – online acceptable (Counselor – Babysitter only)
Must possess or attain valid Advanced Child Care Training Certification – online acceptable (Counselor – Childcare Facilitator only)
Must possess or attain High Ropes Level One Certification (Counselor – Adventure only)
Wilderness First Aid (optional – highly desired!)
Wilderness First Responder (optional – highly desired!)
CDL – Commercial Driver’s License (optional – highly desired!)
Quality Camera Equipment (optional – highly desired!)
Must undergo FBI, CBI, and TRAILS background checks in compliance with Colorado state regulation.

Competencies and Qualifications:
Have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church, her teachings, and her work.
Refrain from public promotion or approval of any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, Annunciation Heights, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine and morals.
Must have enthusiasm for and the willingness to serve the needs of the camp and acceptance of its regularly changing nature
Must have a strong work ethic and ability to stay focused on task until it’s completion
Must show an aptitude to learn new skills and the willingness to be trained in various disciplines
May require local travel by car. Valid driver’s license may be required in some cases (if meets eligibility requirements of state law and youth law).

Physical Requirements:
The job may require lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing more than 50 lbs. (without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment);
As needed, specifically assigned counselors may be needed outside of a normal work week, including some weekends
The ability to operate computer and mouse, copier/printer and telephone
Ability to remain standing for most of working hours
May be exposed to hot, humid work areas
May be exposed to sharp instruments
May require valid drivers’ license (if meet eligibility requirements of state law and youth law)
Due to the nature of the job, the following factors may apply:
The job requires working outdoors, sometimes in hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather conditions
Moderate odors, dust, odor, pollen or fumes may cause discomfort and/or irritation to eyes or respiratory passages requiring use of personal protective equipment
Loud noise from equipment/machines is at a level where ear protection is required.
