In an open letter published on Thursday, the prominent Christian pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Los Angeles criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom for his campaign that promoted abortion by quoting Jesus.

"Diabolical Policies" Made by Newsom

According to Yahoo!, The 83-year-old preacher John MacArthur claimed the governor's views had "diabolical policies," trashing the state through "epidemics of crime, homelessness, sexual perversions, and other malignant expressions of human misery that stem directly from corrupt public policy."

Earlier last month, Christians protested Newsom's gubernatorial campaign when it put up billboards in places with strong abortion laws, encouraging women to travel to California for abortions.

Some billboards promoted available abortion services in California by mimicking Jesus' words from Mark 12:31.

Some Christians and members of the clergy criticized Newsom's pro-abortion billboards because they featured Jesus. They used harsh words like "disgusting" and "satanic" to describe Newsom.

According to MacArthur's letter, Newsom added to the evil of that homicidal campaign by using Jesus' words from Mark 12:31 in an attempt to twist their meaning and claim His name in support of the slaughter of unborn children.

Also, the report stated that MacArthur went on to say that he believed Newsom's immortal soul was in danger because of the way Newsom twisted the words of the Bible and that Newsom would have to answer to God for his acts as governor one day.

Christians Slammed Newsom for His Scandalous Campaign

Christian critics have called Newsom for his pro-abortion billboard campaign in multiple states that features biblical passages.

On Twitter this week, Newsom boasted about the billboards his gubernatorial campaign is putting up in "anti-freedom" areas like Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi, where abortion is illegal.

According to Fox News, several Republican governors were mentioned in Newsom's Twitter thread. These included Greg Abbott of Texas, Mike DeWine of Ohio, and Tate Reeves of Mississippi. Ads are also being placed in the states of Indiana, South Carolina, and South Dakota.

American Center for Law & Justice chief counsel Jay Sekulow called Newsom's use of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ to advocate for the slaughter of unborn children as compassionate and ordered by God "disgusting."

Matthew P. Schneider, a priest, and professor of theology at Belmont Abbey College in Charlotte, North Carolina, was among the many Twitter users who agreed with Sekulow.

Schneider said Newsom's billboards were the worst misrepresentation of a biblical verse he had ever seen.

About Pastor John MacArthur

John MacArthur succeeded Dr. Don Householder as pastor of Grace Community Church in February 1969. MacArthur had previously served as an assistant pastor at the Burbank church his father pastored and had also done extensive conference speaking and representing his alma mater, Talbot Theological Seminary.

According to the church's website, the early church increased in size every two years under his leadership. Formerly holding services in the Chapel, we relocated to the brand-new Family Center in 1971 and then to the present-day Worship Center in 1977.

Since then, more classroom and fellowship buildings have been constructed, turning the campus into a bustling metropolis. They credit their rapid expansion in membership and scope of service to God's abundant blessings.
