A private funeral Mass was held in honor of the Hall of Fame announcer who called games for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Westlake Village, where the renowned broadcaster usually went on Sundays, played host to the memorial service for Vin Scully after his passing.

Friends, family members, previous coworkers, and even former members of the Los Angeles Dodgers, such as Steve Garvey and Nomar Garciaparra, were present.

Scully dies at 94

Scully, who was 94 years old when he passed away on Tuesday, was the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers on the radio and television for 67 years, beginning when the team was still based in Brooklyn.

According to Spectrum News, during the tribute at Dodger Stadium on Friday, which was held before the team's first home game after his passing, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres stood for a moment silence along the third- and first-base lines.

A video tribute followed this played on the stadium's message board. The report stated that the entire Dodger team gathered around the mound to see a second film paying tribute to Vin Scully.

The video featured photographs of Scully with both present and former Dodgers players and commentators this time.

Manager Dave Roberts said that Vin was a man of impeccable morals and principles; he embodied the definition of a true gentleman and was not just a Dodger. Roberts mentioned that he had a passion for baseball, a sport they all share and are passionate about.

Following that, Roberts used Scully's signature call with, "on the count of three, yell as loud as you can, it's time for Dodger baseball," according to the report.

Renowned Broadcaster for LA Dodgers

Vin Scully is the public address announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team. In 1950, he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers, and in 1958, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, along with the team. Many people regard him as the best announcer in broadcasting history.

He started his 64th season with the team in 2013, making his affiliation with the organization the longest in all baseball.

According to Baseball Reference, Scully missed the Dodgers' home opener for the first time that year due to a nasty cold that he described as "just a click away from pneumonia."

However, he later announced that he would return for the Dodgers again in 2014 during the season.

It also stated that in August of 2015, he announced that he would return to the host role in 2016 for the 67th and last season of his career.

About St. Jude the Apostle Church

On July 1, 1970, Father Thomas O'Connell and 135 families formally established St. Jude the Apostle Parish.

According to its history, having a space to hold Mass was the first step in the process. Father O'Connell maintained a modest chapel in his house across from White Oak Elementary School in Westlake Village's First Neighborhood.

St. Jude Parish's initial facility, a multipurpose hall or Parish Hall, was named after its founding father. Throughout the history of St. Jude's parish, many dedicated people have given their time, money, and themselves to make it what it is today.
